Need Advice!!!!! Please ASAP Jack has been having diahrea since this morning on and off I called the vet and they told me to feed him rice with chicken I did that twice this afternoon a couple teaspoons each time ( doesnt seem to help). I bought some pepto and Pedialite my questions are how much pepto to give Jack he is 10 weeks and weighs about 4.6 pounds. How about the electrolyte liquid???? How often ??? |
wow i'm so sorry!!! i have no idea what to do!! i'm sorry i can't be of any help, just wanted to let you know that get well wishes are being sent his way!!! |
Do you know why Jack has diahrrea? Did he eat something that maybe upset his tummy? I would continue with the chicken and rice for now. It helps if you have an idea of why he may have the problem. Is he listless or acting fine otherwise? If he is eating and drinking water? Is he a new puppy? Did you switch his food or anything? If he still has it in the am I would take him in the vets just due to his age alone. I would not rush into giving him the pepto tonite especially not knowing how much to give(JMO) but the pedialyte wouldn't hurt. Good luck, Dawn |
Keep giving him the rice.. Unless like Dawn said (if he is listless or acting funy) get him to your vet. Otherwise the rice should do it. Bell gets the runs every once in a while so I make sure she has rice a few times a week added to her food. |

He may have eaten a little. Their systems are sensitive when they are young. Hopefully, if he did ingest some of the foam, it wasn't very much... :( Hope he'll be better soon. Keep us updated. OK? |
Jack Thankyou for the concern :) I will keep you informed I was wondering on the eletrolyte fluid how much should i give him and how often ?? Jack and Mandy's Mom :aimeeyork |

After losing my baby on the 4th ans her having diahrea (sp)...I would call the vet immediately! Better to be safe than sorry! |

I am so sorry you lost you sweetie :( Yes, I understand but my vet doesn't have an after hours. I will call him first thing in the morning. Jack has been drinking, eating the rice and chicken and he is very active. I was planning on staying up for most of the night to keep an eye on him. But I was wondering about the amount of pedialite how much should I give him ?? Does anyone have any idea should I water it down?? Also is there something better then pepto that has worked for anyone??? Thanks VMS :animal-sm |
Did your vet prescribe pepto or any of that type meds? Please know that if you are not sure what is wrong all you do is mask a problem, you are better off not doing anything medically. Then you know when and if the problem really goes away. If he is acting fine, eating and drinking. Then tomorrow if he still has bad diahrrea you can go to the vet. ESPECIALLY if he has been eating a foreign substance. I hope I am explaining myself well enough. Unless you know exactly what is wrong with an animal you should not try to medicate them yourselves, you only make it harder for the vet to diagnose them. |

oh no poor jack :( hope he feels better soon. |
Jack :aimeeyork Thanks all for your concern and advice It really is so difficult to sit and wait and its frustrating that they can't talk and tell you whats ailing them. Hopefully in a few hours its 1 am now and the vet opens at 8 and hopefully he will be able to tell me whats wrong with Jack. I will keep you guys posted TY again Jack and Mandy's Mom |
Honestly I would have no idea how much pedialyte to give.Is he drinking water? Perhaps you could just mix some in his drinking water. I think you can do a skin test on a dog to check for dehydration. Pull the skin up like you are pinching it together between his shoulders, if it goes right back he is good if it stays tented for a couple seconds or longer he is dehydrated. Let us know how it goes with him,I hope he is all better soon:) |
I would give him some pedialyte now if you haven't already .He won't drink a huge amount.so it probaly doesn't matter how much. Now this is only my opinion. Hope he's ok. |
I'd take a stool sample in the vet today...cocida is a problem with young puppies sometimes... I'm not sure the age of your yorkie. I have a friend going through that right now with two of hers and they are on Albon for it... It was picked up from a visiting pup that had it....She was so upset by it all...But they are gonna be fine now that they are on meds... |
I hope your baby is being taken care of this morning...keep us updated for future reference re pedialite mix 50/50 water |
???????????????????????????? Please give us an update on your baby. We are all concerned and care! |
Hi all Jack is a bit better today just wanted to let you guys know. :) Thanks for everyones support and advice. |
I had to take Lilli to the Vet last month because she got into the wrong puppy food and she was in the ER Vet for two days with a IV in her leg and she got so bad0 she couldnt even drink water she would throw that back up so if I where you I would take yours to the vet and get some Meds for him or her.My vet told me to give Lilli 1/4 of Pepcid AD and that only made it worse but dont what to long it could only get worse.Yorkies have such delicate tummies anything could make it worse.Hope this helps Kristi |
IF I were in your place I would just go to the vet asap - eating foam can be very dangerous - GOOD LUCK with your baby...I HOPE he feels better FAST ! |
Jack Hi all :) I took Jack to the vet yesterday with a stool sample and the vet did not find anything that was a relief. He ended up giving me amoxicillian with some medication to help bind. Jack is doing much better. no more middle of the night diarrhea or during the day. He is eating and driniking with issues so he's on the road to recovery :) Thanks all for your support and help. :aimeeyork Jack and Mandy's mom :animal36 |

RE: delicate Yorkie belly 1 Attachment(s) Our Yorkie had some bad belly issues when he was less than a year old; our vet recommended that we feed him wet "W/D" dog food (yes, the kind you have to buy at special stores) in the morning as his breakfast--it had the effect of "binding" and his belly problems went away. We still feed him the wet W/D each morning (admittedly warmed up in the microwave and then smushed on a plate for him) and then dry food in the evening, and his belly is just fine. Every once in a while he'll have a little problem again and we give him cottage cheese with his dry food, then the problem goes away. But belly problems with these wee ones are scary. Once, we called the emergency vet hotline to ask whether we should bring him in when he had a problem, and the vet said "it's up to you, but the little ones go downhill fast." (!) So, of course, we took him in. Turned out he just had gas. Better safe than sorry, I guess. |
1 Attachment(s) So glad your baby is better, remember to reintroduce food very slowly with the chicken and rice, only a few kibble at a time with the chicken and rice untill his tummy is better...........so sounded like Coccidia to me..........am glad your baby is better...........Gracie and Boodah send puppy kisses |
