cold little boy I have a yorkie/silky mix and only weighs one pound and he is having a hard time staying way by himself. I want to know if there is a way that I can keep him warm in his crate all night without using a heat pad, I am worried about him chewing on the cord. I was wondering if the rice bags would stay warm all night. Does anyone else have any ideas? :( |
I know that the rice bags won't stay warm all night. I used a heating pad under the crate and it seemed to work good for Myah. She was only a pound when I brought her home a month ago. I also cut a old sock and made a little sweater for her to wear at night or when we went outside. If you make a cut before the heel part of the sock and then cut a area out for the legs, it works out great. I also have a stuffed dog that I put in her crate that she snuggles up with. |

Would it help to cover him with a nice soft blanet, as well? Mine still like to be covered up. |
oh what about pj's? Layla wears flannel pj's int he winter because it is so cold here. |
What about making a rice sock? Mine do stay Warm for a Pretty long time. http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Rice-Sock Also have you had him Checked out at the vets? |
I just saw a product at PetSmart that lays under your dog's kennel mat and reflects their body heat back towards them. Maybe that would work? Also, when Boog was small I cut the end of the sleeve off of some old sweatshirts, cut 2 holes for his front legs and an opening for under his belly...they made nice little turtle neck sweatshirts for him. Are you sure it's not blood sugar or a health issue? |
I went today after I took him to the animal hospital and bought a little jumper, sweater, reflective heat mat for under his bed, and a heat pad, I want to cover all angles and try different things until I find something that works. When I get to bring him home I don't want him to be chilled ever again. He has pnemonia, and I want to help him stay warm when he comes home. I know that the floor is cold under his cage so I am trying to prevent it from reaching him. |

If you do use rice bags, be careful they chew it up and eat the raw rice. |

And another happy customer, I think that I am going to be very pleased with it. Does it get too hot, and does it really stay warm for 10-12 hours? |

my Cricket was 16 ounces when i finally got to bring her home!! and I simply could not let her get chilled! not in the least,, i bought a brand new heating pad, ,had it here when i brought her home,, I placed it under her Crate,, which kept her crate/bed plenty warm,, with her bedding,,only thing,, FIRST night,, 1:35 AM i heard the faintest tiny whimpering,, Thank goodness i slept lightly,,I got up thinking she'd need to potty,, and she was COLD to the touch ,shivering slightly,, making the most pitiful little whimper,, I checked and the Brand new heating pad had shut itself OFF,, New Safety Feature for senior citizens,, so they dont fall asleep and damage their skin,, so I quickly got Cricket out,, warmed her up by holding and rubbing her, gave her NutriCal,,she was fine,, soon as she warmed. thats when i discovered the "flaw" in the heating pad,, i returned it that morning and found an old fashioned kind without the auto shutoff. and she slept with it under her crate for over 6 months! and I gave her NutriCal at least daily til she was over a yr old 3 times a day when she was so small. |

When Bella had her litter of puppies we put a heated blanket under one side of the crate and the heat radiated up through the plastic bottom and their blankies....it worked really well and if they got too warm the could crawl to the other cooler side. also maybe try some jammies if all else fails i would seriously consider letting the pup sleep with you i know hubby might not like it but too bad! haha i tell my bf to deal with it! |
