Orthopedic Surgeon in KS Does anyone have a recommendation for an orthopedic surgeon in KS for luxating patellas? My rescue Pommie has been diagnosed with grade 4 luxating patellas and needs to have surgery at the beginning of summer. He is only 9 mo. old and I am heartsick for him. But he is a rescue and I knew we could face something like this. My tiny Yorkie had one knee done at the Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita with Dr. Michael Nawrocki as the surgeon. She still favors the knee that he did but I don't think she is in any pain. My local vet said that she spoke to another vet who agreed with her that Dr Nawrocki has provided some successful outcomes for them. I know that K-State is an option, but their cost was much highter that Dr. Nawrocki's. Any opinions/ideas? I posted this in the Regional forum but that place is not too lively. |
I live in Blue Springs Missouri - a suburb of Kansas City. Bailey was limping around in November. The Vet confirmed 1/4 LP (which I already knew) and suggested surgery - $850 (w/o blood work 'cause she just had that done when she was spayed). I was heart broke and decided that it would be best and to have it done after Christmas. But, good news! Her limping only lasted a couple weeks. Bailey lost some weight and no more problems. But again, she was diagnosed with only a level one. Bottom line - the price seemed right and this is a reputable place. But, I never met the Ortho. I hate to recommend the Ortho because I don't know first hand. But our Dr. Gina Bradley is WONDERFUL!. We use Blue Springs Animal Hospital. Good luck!!! |
Posted by Karrie "But again, she was diagnosed with only a level one." Cocoa lived for 9 yrs. with LP before she had to have surgery. Grade 1 is definitely manageable. I've been suspicious for awhile that Snow had LP when I watched him get up from his haunches. It always seemed as if he couldn't get his paws under him correctly to push himself up in a smooth manner. He has never had enough power in his hind legs to jump up on the couch. I have ramps to everything, which I am now thankful for. Thank you for the infor about the surgeon. $850 is cheaper than what I paid. It was supposed to cost $1,400 but I got by with $1,200. Would you be able to PM the Ortho's name and number to me? Guess it wouldn't be so bad staying in KC for a few days. Our daughter goes to pharmacy school in Lawrence and works at KUMC. |
