Vomiting, Diarrhea, Scratching??? Hey everyone- this is my first post. I am very worried about my Diggs. He has recently (past week) started throwing up and having diarrhea. The diarrhea is usually only a small amount and he does also have solid stools. When he throws up it is usually all bile. Today the throwing up has increased a lot and I saw he had blood in his diarrhea. I am VERY worried about my baby. He also has been scratching himself a lot lately. I have bathed him a few times (with the same shampoo we have always used) but that doesn't seem to help. I caught some fleas on him after a trip to the park a week ago- treated him immediately and haven't seen any since. He has been eating a little bit less than usual but nothing drastic. Could this be worms? Is this something to go to an emergency clinic about? He seems to be in good spirits which calms me a bit and I have been making sure he drinks water- any other suggestions? THANK YOU! |
Anytime a dog has blood in their stool I would go to the vet. Your little one is having to many problems at the same time to ignore. Please call your vet in the morning. |
Thanks- I am definitely taking him to the vet tomorrow! We have a great vet so I am hoping it will be sorted out! Just wanted to make sure I didn't need to take him to the emergency clinic tonight! |
Sorry your baby is sick!! Hope the vet makes him feel all bettrt in AM!!:aimeeyork :animal-pa |
hows your baby? what did the vet say???? |
I called the Vet yesterday and they said if Diggs Vomits or has Diarrhea at all to bring him to emergency care. They didn't have an appointment available. He was relatively good for most of the day- seemed energetic. He ended up throwing up once and having diarrhea once both at night. I brought him in this morning to the Vet because they have someone who is making "rounds" so he will stay there all day and get checked out! Fingers crossed!! Also, he has been really interested in eating grass- does this soothe their stomachs? |
How is Diggy? |
Diggy is back to his old self again! They vet checked for everything and even did x-rays. He had bacteria in his tummy (not a parasite, thankfully) and they gave him a bland diet and some medication. After two days he is back to normal- but he HATES taking his pills! I love my vet- they did such a great job with him and eased my worries :) |

Why do you ask about bully stix?, Ouy Kirby is back in the hospital today, posible stick stuck in tummy. Has bacteria. Vomitting and loose stools though hasnt eaten since wed Morn. He is having barium xrays today . Is on dextrose. Also on clovomox for aUTI. I am wondering if it willever digest or willthey do surgery like for and obstruction? IT is not passing. It is 1 and ahalf inches square ( is not actual bully stick...jsut similar). But he is only 3.3 lbs. 11mos. |
Oh no Dianezz- I hope Kirby gets better soon!! Diggs does not chew bully stix, flossies or other animal parts. I think he got his bacteria when we were down by the bay here. At one point it looked like he bit into something that he didn't particularly enjoy. We were thinking maybe it was goose feces. Maybe that's where he got the bacteria? |
DO you happen to know the name of the bacteria?? Mine both have been diagnosed with Clostridium (c-diff) and its AWFUL!!! Im trying to find out every possible place this can be contracted. I have been hearing SO MUCH of dogs with bacterias, vommiting, the poops....its just all so scary. I have hear Goose poop does have bacteria in also. Mine was traced back to bully stix and flossies. |
update.torn esophagus Kirby was taken frm the local hospital adn spent 3 days at the university Hospital in Madison. after several tests and endoscopy found a bone chew gouged intohis esophagus. it took hearly two hours to chip away at it until it was smallenough to push into stomach. He has sever damage. He is on pepcid AC, Prilosec, and one to coat the lining.....these areto keep the acids from creating a hope in the esophagus and to keep scar tissue to a minimum. However he is prescription baby food and still having a hard time and often seem to choke on air. It is very scary. He gets anothet endoscopy in a week. I have to say I am so frightened. afraid now, and nerouse later on that he might pick up a scrap or a leaf a nd choke. |
