Corn on the cob...please help! I am really really worried. Buddy got a hold of two corn on the cobs last night while I was sleeping. Well, he actually got a hold of the cob since I ate the corn off of it. I woke up this morning with cob pieces in my bed! I called the vet but I haven't heard from him and it's been over an hour! Buddy is acting fine, as if nothing happened. (Although he is tiptoeing around since he knows he is in trouble). Should I be worried? Will it just flush out of his system? Help! |
They cant digest the cob. Hopefully it will come out. I would talk to an emergency vet just to be sure |
I would just watch him closely. A corn cob can cause bowel blockage if he swallowed large pieces. Just keep watch to make sure he poops regularly. If he us unable to poop for more than a day, then he should see the vet. Signs seen with intestinal obstruction may include: vomiting or dry heaves, diarrhea (or straining), anorexia, painful abdomen, lethargy. Please keep us posted. |
the cob usually gets stuck in their digestive tract. Surgery is required most times. The dog usually doesn't act sick at first. they are usually happy dogs that have diarrhea and vomit. i'd be very careful and at the first sign of something wrong take her to the er. |
Hope your vet gets back to you. Sounds like cobs might cause problems. |
It's been seven hours since he ate the cob. Earlier, while I was reading, he brought me a cob he must've hidden (that I couldn't find when I was searching the room). There were bits and pieces of the cob all over my bed so it looks like he must've chewed it up and may have only swallowed a few small pieces. The vet did get back to me, and he said although he thinks I should wait a few hours to see if his behavior or habits change, I could bring him in for x-rays and for a check up. I decided to wait and after seven hours, he hasn't vomitted, doesn't have an upset or tender stomach, and is acting normal. Although we still aren't in the clear zone until he poops, I'm hoping all is well. I have a few hundred dollars saved in my savings account so if he does need help, I will get it for him. I'm just praying that it will pass. Thank you all for your support and advice! I will keep you updated! |
Last week wnd Cali ate a big piece of a latex toy, the whole bottom of it. The next day she was walkinfg hunched over and shivering. Of course I ran her into the er vet Saturday night and they xrayed her, couldn't determine if their was a blockage but a lot of food in her tummy, since she wasn't throwing up we decided to wait and see. Sure enough Sunday morning she pooped out this hugh piece of latex, I honestly don't know how she managed to pass it. So another 270.00 down the drain. If he is acting normal Iwould wait and see. Good luck |
How is Buddy doing today? I hope all is well. |
