11 year old dog pees every 2 hours
 
My 11 year old yorkie pees every 2 hours all night long also. Urine tests are negative Xray for stones is negative. I cant use a doggie door as I live in a condo.
Has anyone had this problem with their dog? Joyce

is your dog aware of urinating or is it leaking? does he leave puddles where he sleeps or a little trail sometimes when walking?

I am so sorry your dog is having problems. That can be very frustrating when you don't have a doggie door. I do hope they find something that will help him. He doesn't have a UTI?? In the meantime I would suggest maybe using a belly band to save your furniture and floors. At least that would remove that part of the aggravation. Poor little thing. I feel so bad for him. Does he act like he's in pain??

Frequent urination is a symptom of diabetes and also in an older dog, they could possibly have a hormonal imbalance that affects the kidneys' ability to concentrate urine, causing frequent urination. This is a very serious condition that can lead to severe dehydration if it progresses. I think you might want to do further testing to see what is causing this. I have a 12 year old female and she gets up one time during the night to get a drink and to pee but I don't think in her case it is anything to worry about.

No he does not leak urine or leave puddles. The vet has given him some medicine for incontinent dogs to see if it will help but so far it is not working. Thanks for your reply.

It seems to be a mystery all his blood work is normal. Thanks for your reply

I have a 14 yr. old senior. I really think it is part of aging, if your Vet cannot find medical reason. Polo leaks, sleeps all day and I carry him out to wee, because he cannot hold as well as he could when he was young...... I am just thankful he is still with me, wee wee and all!

Have your vet do a blood work up to see if there is anything out of the ordinary. If its just incontinence (dribbling pee) it can be treated with medication like Proin, and use of belly bands.

As a few others have suggested, frequent urination is a sign of diabetes like my Lady has. Did your vet do any bloodwork? A basic cbc will show blood glucose.

Another disease that affects older dogs is Cushings. Symptoms are frequent urination, hair loss and a pot bellied look. It is more difficult to diagnose.

It's tough when our furbabies get old, isn't it?

I think sometimes it just the bladder that tend to give out when these guys get older. My little Chihuahua, Delsi, who died in Sept. at 2 months shy of turning 16, did the same thing for about two or three years before she died. Nothing was ever found wrong with her.
