Bladder Surgury....now Black Stool My Tiger had surgery two weeks ago for bladder stones. He seems to be recovering fine except he continues to strain a lot when he potties. He is definitely passing urine normally at times, but he just seems to need to go out often and strains often with nothing coming out. Now I am noticing that his stool is black and apparently very sticky because pieces keep sticking to his hair and I am constantly having to clean him up. I am going to take him back to the vet tomorrow and see what she has to say. Just wondering if anyone has any idea what might be going on. |
I don't have any answers, but wanted to say I hope it's nothing serious. Is he on meds since having his surgery? I know some meds will cause black stools. I'll get this bumped up for you and hopefully someone else may have some ideas. Best wishes to you and Tiger! |
If this were a person I would have to guess they are passing blood from higher up in the GI tract as the stool is black. If it were a lower GI problem you would see red blood. I would think they would draw a complete blood count. Good luck. Watch your little one closely for them to become tired, lethargic, or just seem to have no energy. This would be signs of the blood loss and I would get to the vet right away. |
Black tarry stools usually indicate bleeding in the GI tract. I would definitely get it checked out. |
How's your baby doing? |
