Codie Needs LP Sugery ... AGAIN 2 Attachment(s) A little over a week ago I noticed that Codie was limping on his RIGHT rear leg. Hubby and I took him to the vet this Saturday and our suspicions were confirmed ... he has LP. :( :( You old timers here on YT may remember that Codie had LP surgery on his rear LEFT leg when he was a little over a year old. At that time, my vet confirmed that it was genetic and not due to an injury. :( The vet thinks that Codie's LP in his right leg is definitely genetic but he said he can't say 100% that it is until he performs the operation but he did say that he is 99% sure. My poor baby. :( I've scheduled surgery in 3 weeks for March 21st (it's Good Friday and my firm is closed). We have to drop him off around 12 noon and we can take him home that evening. Hubby and I are also going to take Monday and Tuesday off the following week so we can be home to watch him. We may even take Wednesday off if we feel he needs more round the clock time with us. I'm EXTREMELY confident in Codie's vet -- he did a FABULOUS job on Codie's left leg and I just know everything will be a total success again ... but I still can't help worrying. :( I feel so bad for Codie. It was bad enough to have one LP operation when he was just a baby. Now he's having the other knee done. :( Please keep my baby in your prayers. I'm sick over this and I haven't been able to eat all weekend. :( :( |
Aww... We'll have to start a recovery thread. Sammy goes in on March 20th for both knees. I don't know what exactly to expect? I'm off the next week so hopefully we can get the worst over before I have to go back to work. My husband works from home so she won't be alone, but he can't spend all day babying her. I'm afraid it will be the other way around and we will spend all of our time trying to keep her still! |
I will keep both your babies in my thoughts on the 20th & 21st! :) :animal-pa |
Puppy kisses to Cody and Sammy. Poor babies. Hoping for a speedy recovery for them both. I am a little scared. Zoey's knees are between a 1 and 2. Hopefully I can keep hers from progressing and ending up needing surgery. I went the surgery route with the Shih Tzu I had years ago and it was so sad. Damn near broke the bank too. If you guys don't mind me asking what is the estimate you were given for the surgery? I can only imagine what it will cost me if I have to do it now. Hobbs was done 7 years ago and in total it cost me around $5500 from beginning to end with his care. |

Oy Vey....I can see the bill now. NY is sure one hell of an expensive place. I had Hobbs done at the Animal Medical Hospital here in NY by their top orthopedist. He was expensive...but it had to be done. |

The quote I got was for $2600+meds. |
We'll be thinking of both Cody and Sammy and wishing you all a speedy recovery!!! Jen - how is Cali doing these days? |
I will be praying for your pup. |

Cali is doing ok overall but we still have to monitor her knees. She has a few baby teeth left and the vet really thinks we need to pull them. I totally agree but it's the anesthesia that worries me. He doesn't like the idea of Cali being under anesthesia either but he said he can very lightly sedate her and do the teeth very fast (so that she won't be under for very long). I have to take care of Codie's knees first before they get worse (the longer you wait, the worse it is). But I got the ok from my vet to wait these 3 weeks before his surgery. If it was an emergency, I would have done the surgery on Saturday. But I'd really like to do it on a holiday so I can save on the vacation day and then be able to take a few more days off the following week. I don't want to leave Codie home alone for at least 5 days after his operation. My vet said it's totally ok to wait until the 21st. So we're going to do Cali next month after we finish with Codie. We still want to get her spayed but that would require Cali being under anesthesia much longer -- so we're still undecided. :( |
Awww my poor sexy legs Codie  I know how hard that surgery was on his as a baby. Poor thing. Don't you worry Jen, he is such a little trooper. He will be just great and in the long run this will help him. I'm glad you guys have discovered he needs this now and it's not too late, thank God. My poor fur-nephew. Please give him loads of kisses for me (as well as Cali and Tee Tee Mouse :p ) Call me if you need anything Jenny Penny, seriously. If you need moral support I'm your girl ;) |
I'm so sorry to hear that Codie has to have surgery again! Poor little sweetheart! I'm sure he will do fine, but I feel bad that you and Codie have to go through this again. I'll say a prayer for a successful surgery. Hugs to you! |
