Can water make a Yorkie sick? So for awhile my dog kept throwing up every time he ate Royal Canin. I switched him to Solid Gold and everything was great again. Now, every time he drinks water after 8:00pm, he throws up in the middle of the night. Is this normal? He is eating and going to the bathroom fine. I just don't know what to do? Can water really make a dog sick if they drink it too late? |

Is he drinking chlorinated water? Chlorinated water can make dogs sick. If he is throwing up every night then I would be a little concerned that he could be doing it because of pancreatitis or it could be stress related. |

I know this will shock some people but my babies get bottled water as there are so many chemicals in tap water I went to bottled. I also catch rain water in the winter outside in their bowls. Of course they drink a certain amount of tap water from different sources but not much... |

When is his last meal of the day? What time? And what time has he been throwing up around? (I'm trying to gague if it's empty stomach vomiting) Maybe it's some type of food allergy ... and this exists in smaller doses in the new food? |

Try giving a snack right before bedtime and see if that helps. My dogs get distilled water, but they will also drink out of the pool when they're outside:laugh: I've tried and tried to discourage that, but they won't listen:p So far, no ill effects from that. Unless the water is somehow contaminated, I doubt that it's that making him sick. You'd more than likely be sick as well if that was it. I hope that it stops, it's never fun when these little ones are sick, as they can go downhill way too quickly:hands: |

Sometimes Blaze will throw up if he drank to fast. It comes right up after he drank it!!!! |

all of mine get bottled water as well. Once when we went on vacation, when I only had one yorkie, I noticed she got sick at certain campgrounds. One of the other campers saw I was worried and said he used bottled water because all tap water is not created equal, to say the least. Anyway ever since, they all get bottled. |

Here is some interesting information on the dangers of fluoride and chlorinated water. http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/avictim.htm#water http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/fluoride.htm http://www.cnri.edu/drwilson//Dental...ide-danger.htm |

He eats about 5:30 pm every day. He is not getting chlorinated water. He only gets the tap water. Maybe I will try switching to bottled water and see if that does anything. Usually when he does throw up, it's about 2 or 3am. Thanks for the suggestions! Oh, and it's not every day. Just if I forget to take away his water after about 7:30pm. I'm not sure if it's his food, but if it were, wouldn't he be throwing up everyday? I just wish they could talk and tell me what's wrong so I can fix it :) |

Hmm..it might be because he's eating too early in the evening..what time does he get fed in the morning? |

He eats about 7:00am because I have to leave for work. I talked to a couple of my friends and they have their yorkies drinking filtered or bottled water. I think I'm going to take him off the tap and see what happens. Thanks for all your help!!! |

I would suggest a biscuit before bed to make sure his tummy isn't empty. That always seemed to help Sophie and keep the acid down. Warmly, Deborah |
