Please Read re: Yorkie Pancreatitis!!! Yorkie Pancreatitis - PLEASE PAY ATTENTION! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is been my month so far......On July 2nd we woke and our 6 1/2 year old Precious, 4.8 lbs, had thrown up her dog food in our bed. (All sleep with us)..All cleaned up and then she seemed fine all day Sat and Sun. The morning of the 4th, I woke to diarrea on my pillow and she was still laying there. ...All cleaned up again and she acted ok but like she just had upset tummy or didn't feel really perky. That was about 8 am and approx 3 pm we left to go for a ride and have dinner. When we arrived home about 7 she was GONE! No explanation from our vet, said we could get an autopsy but often they did not show the real cause of death for sure. We didn't want that anyway as the pain was already unbearable for my husband and I. We had her cremated and she sits in my office in her little urn. On the evening at 2 in the am of the 10th, our other yorkie, vomited. I was still up and saw this. Watched her til about 3 and she kinda spit up again. By 8 that morning my husband had her at the hospital. She was diagnosed with pancreatitis. She was touch and go and in ICU for two days. Thank God Sassi is home and much better but our sweet baby girl Precious is gone forever, til we meet at the bridge! This disease runs in yorkies. As a matter of fact they are the #2 most suceptible. (sp?) PLEASE do not feed your babies table scraps or anything with fat! I beg you to pay attention if your yorkie starts vomiting and get her to a Dr IMMEDIATELY! Don't want others to go thru what we have been through the last 13 days and certainly do not want any babies to suffer cause you may not know this! __________________ Chlois - Precious' & Sassi's Mommie |
thank you for telling us! i'm so sorry about precious!!! this is one of the hardest things to go thru! don't worry, the pain will get better, but it will take time! if you ever need to talk we are all here for you! |
So sorry.. My heart goes out to you, thank you for the warnings.. God Bless Precious ...... Gina |
Thank you for sharing your story! I have printed it out and posted it on my refrigerator so my family will understand why I am so strict about "no human food"! They all think I am over protective. Hopefully your story will spare some of our other babies. |
I'm so sorry ... thank you for the info. |
Oh, NO! That is horrible! Yes, that is something that all of us should be aware of and try to avoid. My deepest sympathies. :( |
So very sorry to hear of your loss. Our thoughts are with you. Our little guy Sedrick has been fighting "garbage gut" for the last week and half and thankfully has not had full fledge pancreatitis. His only symptom was vomiting and was at times (especially at night) was so severe that two trips to emergency vet were made for both sub q fluid therapy and also anti vomiting and antacid injections. He seems to make a good attempt at recovering for a few days with no vomiting and then something happens to make him sick again. Yesterday he ate grass and was so sick that I thought another trip to emergency was going to happen, now today he has not vomited at all. I have to feed him 1 teaspoon of sensitivity diet every hour and basically monitor him at all times. The vet gave me liquid anti vomiting and liquid antacids that he is to be given every 12 hours. The poor little guy had just started to put some muscle weight back on after having his neck brace removed and this had to happen to him. His weight when last checked on Saturday was 3.5lbs so he has lost 3/4lbs since before he broke his neck. I need to get some weight onto him!! Anyway, Please people DO NOT feed your babies table scraps because believe me a little kindness can cost a lot of $$$ and even more heartache |
Im so sorry for your loss. RIP little Precious. Thank you so much for the warning is something very important to know. IM glad that Sassy is doing fine. |
Im so sorry Im so sorry to hear about your little Precious.I went through this also, My two Yorkies was being hand feed table food , But No More My Hubby cut them up some fatty roast and they was both sick for three days .They was so ill mostly the female. They both came out of it, and I am thankful. I am so glad you posted this. Maybe it will help people understand. My heart goes out to you for your lost, i am so sorry. |
I went thru the same thing. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. My yorkie (weighs, 6.8lbs) had panacreatitis when he was 11/2 He's 4 now..and he's doing good...he's only had a few other less severe cases....because in one incident, he was given a liver treat at petsmart and the other because he had tooo many greenie bones. The severe case he experienced was because of all the scraps and wet food and treats we used to give him. He's our first dog...so I was no aware of what could happen to him. He also had to stay in the hospital for 2 days with no food, just on IV, so his pancreas could rest and renew it's self. Please don't give your doggie, especially the small ones...any human food other then vegetables..and treats are very bad... |
I am so sorry for your loss. I have been giving Cali hamburgers and butter cookies. That will now stop. Thank you for warning us. I lost my last Yorkie at 6 1/2 due to heart and lung problems from a severely collapsed trachea. It is so hard to loose one. |
:( my yokie just had this.. she started pooing dirreah on the 26 and vommiting then on wed during the night she pooed gel like bloody stuff and i took her to the vet the next day.. i am now feeding her iams lamb mean and rice formula. the vet told me the easier to digest the better.. u can also feed the iams intestinal that u get at vet |
