Maggy May Needs Some Prayers Two days ago Maggy got to a bag of Yesterdays News cat litter in my bedroom. I had it on the entertainment center on the shelf where she couldn't reach it, (so I thought.) I had her blocked off in my room in her play area where I thought she'd be safe cause I was cleaning and couldn't keep a 100% watch on here. I went in to check on her and here she had taken her lil couch and moved it over in front of the entertainment stand and was standing on the back of the couch and had chewed a lil whole in the bag of cat litter and had eaten some. She had done ok for two days, no loose stools or anything like that, but then earlier this evening, she got diarreaha (sp.) A lil later she started to pass blood with it. I could tell she didn't feel good cause all she wanted was for me to pick her up and hold her and normally she's a girl that wants to run, run, run. With the amount of diarreaha she had, I was afraid her sugar would go low, so I put some Kayro syrup on the tip of my finger and let her lick it off and I started forcing fluids giving it to her orally with a syringe. I mixed a lil kayro in with the water as well. She feels a bit hot to the touch and when she kisses my face, her lil tongue feels hot to. I laid in bed with her for a bit cause she was shivering and so I laid her on my chest and put her lil blanket on her till she fell asleep and wasn't shivering, then I took the blanket partly off her. When she's wake up, I'd put her on her puppy pad and she'd pee and have the scoots again, but eventually, the blood lessoned and finally stopped. This last time she went, I seen some clumps int he diarreaha, so I took a Q-tip and got it out and seen it is indeed the Yesterdays News cat litter. Some of you may know the rough start Maggy had in life and I just worry so much about her. Everytime any single lil thing happens, I freak, my heart sinks and I get so upset cause I just want her to be healthy and ok. I'm calling my vet first thing at 7 AM and seeing if I can take her in. Even though the bleeding has stopped, I'd feel so much better if he took a look at her. Some prayers that she gets through the night ok and that she'll be ok would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance. I did move the bag of litter when I seen her on the back of her lil couch and that she had chewed into the bag. Do you think she'll be ok? Has anyones furbabies every gotten a hold of any Yesterdays News Cat Litter? if so, did they have the scoots and pass blood with it? I'm just so worried about her. I feel so bad for putting the litter there, I honestly didn't think there was any way in the world she could reach it. |
I'm sorry she's been sick. Hope she gets better ASAP. I'm sure she'll be fine. If she stops eating, gets lethargic, and won't poop for over a day I'd worry about a blockage..just keep an eye on her |
I wish you the best at the vet tomorrow... keep us updated |
Prayers little Maggie May is okay , keep us posted pls. |
Tracy I am so sorry.. Give your vet a call it may make you feel better. Maggy May is in my prayers ... just yell if you need anything at all. get back asap after you see the vet HUGS |
If the litter you are using is clumping, what would keep it from clumping in the digestive track? Scary! What is it with dogs and cat litter? I have the area where our cat's box and food are blocked off with a gate. She still drags litter out of that area because she has long, long hair on the bottom of her feet. (I do trim it.) My Pommie is fascinated by the crystal chips and chomps each one he can find before I vacuum. Now why does he crunch each tiny crystal and he won't chew his food? Guess until I can understand "dog" I'll be kept in the dark.:D Joanne :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :dog: |
I'm glad you are taking her to the vet. I'd be worried that it clumped inside her and caused a blockage. Please keep us posted! |
Your por baby, I hope all is well... Let us know how your little one is after the vet. We are waiting to hear.:( |
Bless both your hearts. I'm praying for Maggy. Please keep us posted. |

I want to thank you all for the prayers and good thoughts for Maggy, she hasn't passed anymore blood since last night, butt hen she hasn't had a bowel movement this AM either. She got up and was her happy lil self, drank water, ate her food and wanted to play. Right now she's curled up in my lap waiting to go to the vet. He appointment is at 10 this AM, I'd have taken her in at 7 but the vet does all his surgeries up until 10, they gave me the first available appointment after his surgeries this AM. I was reading and I'm getting a bit more worried though. I read that a pup can actually come down with parvo up to 14 days after having been vaccinated for parvo, and yesterday made 14 days that Maggy was able to get her very first set of shots because of how sick she was when she came to us. I pray I'm just worrying to much, I just want her to be ok. She doesn't ACT sick, I mean, she gives me kisses and is alert and. The vet asked me to bring a fecal sample in, I sure hope she passes something before we go. Normally she would have pooped by now. God I hope she doesn't have a blockage or parvo. Please keep the prayers coming and I'll post just as soon as I get back from the vet today. Thanks in advance. |
Sending prayers for your baby to be ok. Try to think positive, your doing the right thing by taking her in, some wouldn't. You are a good mommy! |
Aww, poor baby! It sounds like you did all the right things and that she'll probably be fine. I'm glad you're taking her to the vet anyway, though, better safe than sorry. You're a good Mommy:thumbup:  |
Praying Maggy will get a good report at the vet. These little babies are going to give us heart attacks |

Well, we just got back from the vet with Maggy May, her temps is normal and the bloody diarrhaea hasn't come back since last night. Her stool tested negative for any parasites, which I'm glad for that, that's her fourth negative stool sample since she's been with us so that's relieving. The doc doesn't seem to think it's parvo at all because she's active, eating and drinking and has had absolutely no vomiting at all, so that REALLY makes me feel better. He's convinced it was the Yesterdays News cat litter that irritated her tummy and she's been passing it so he doesn't believe there's a blockage either. He wants me to keep an eye out for any vomiting or anymore diarrhaea or change in her behavior which could signify a blockage, but he said at this point, he doesn't believe she has one. He did put her on an antibiotic though to make sure there is no problems from the irritation to her stomach (Flagyl), she'll be on that for a week and is to have it once a day. I had him to check the top of her head while we were there, when she came to us, she had this weeee teeeny spot on her head where it looked like fur didn't grow as much yet, hardly noticable at all. As time has went on, it looked like a part line in her fur, but on looking at it closer, I seen the fur was actually thinning and didn't look right. So, they did a skin scrapping today and found a few Demodex Mites. They said they wanted to try her on Goodwinol oitment first for it because she's so small and all and to bring her back in/in two weeks to have it re-checked. I told them she's due to have her second set of shots on the 3rd, will they put those on hold now since she's got mites? They said it's very possible (my regular vet was out today so Maggy seen the other vet.) They said that normally pups with very low immune systems get this, some can fight it off, some cannot, but not to ever breed her (which I would NEVER do anyways) because it could be passed onto pups when they are born. I just want to cry. Maggy has fought so hard since she's came to live with us, she survived her brothers death and all the sickness her and Gibbs came here with and she's such a good girl. All I want is for her to be healthy and happy. Well, the happy part is achieved, but it seems like she just can't get to the state of healthiness she so deserves. I did some searching online to see exactly what the demodex mites were and educate myself on it and my heart just sunk so low at what I saw. I hope this medication works and clears things up, I don't want Maggy to have to suffer through what some dogs I seen online suffer through, some had to be put down because they just couldn't get rid of the mites. I just can't imagine Maggy not being here with us, we love her so much and she's part of our life. Has anyones furbabies ever had the demodex mites? if so, what has been your experience and did you use the Goodwinol ointment, did it work? Has your furbabies had any other break outs of the mites since then? I feel like for every step forward she takes, she gets knocked back two. I asked the vet how she could get them and she said that many pets have them and owners don't even know it, but the healthy dogs and older dogs can fight against it and it will clear up, it's the ones with very low immune systems that can't fight back. So, that's the update on Maggy May, I'm gonna go, I wanna read more while Maggy's sleeping. Thanks for all the prayers for her, I really appreciate it. |
