Maximus swallowed a piece of plastic Hi. I'm a first-time dog owner. Maximus has thrown up 7 times today and the 5th time he threw up a piece of plastic about the size of the tip, if not less, of my pinky. It's really thin. His vet is not open today. Should I take him to the emergency vet? I've taken his food up and am making sure he is drinking water to keep him hydrated. Any advice is very much appreciated. Thank you. |

I can only say what I would do. If Ellie vomited 5 times, then threw up plastic, then kept throwing up, I would take her to the vet. Obstruction is a possibility. Welcome to YorkieTalk:) |

I would definitely take him to the vet. He may have swallowed more plastic than was vomited up and could be obstructed as Ellie May said. |

Hi Welcome to yt. I think I would do as the others have suggested and take you little sweetie to the vet. |

Thank you. Those were my thoughts too but I wanted to get some opinions from others who have puppy experience. Max eats everything he sees but he's never thrown up like this. |

i agree. a trip to the er is in order. |

Our little furbabies can sure make our hearts stop in fear. I have one that eats everything in sight. I'm constantly scouring the floor looking at things through Snowboy's eyes. I still miss things and have to dig stuff out of his mouth. Toys are even a hazard. Have thrown many away. Dropped a button the other day and even before I could get a word out of my mouth or move to pick it up, Snowboy had gulped it down. He never bothers to chew anything including his food. A brake-fast bowl hasn't even helped. He scares me to death!:( Please let us know what the ER vet says. Maximus is blessed to have you looking after him.:) Joanne :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :dog: |

Chloe chewed a Soda Cup Plastic lid. I was at work and came home and she had thrown up everywhere. Doctor told me to give her lots of water and watch her over night. She was fine the next day... my carpet however was not! |

Maximus's update from vomitting plastic I'm sorry it's taken me so long but these couple days Max has kept me busy. He's doing good now. I took him to the ER Vet right after I logged off. He doesn't have anything else in him proved by x rays. I came home that night around 11 p.m. only to have to go back at 5 a.m. because he was vomitting blood and pooped blood. My poor baby. Apparently the fluids they gave him through the body, his body did not take. I took him to his vet Monday. He's on meds and he ate his first meal today, some special food from the vet. And we have a follow up appointment tomorrow morning. But my baby is doing good, running around, playing w/toys and being himself. So thank you for your advice! |

So glad to hear he is feeling better please keep us updated as to what the vet says |

Glad things worked out for your baby. It's so important to keep things that they can eat and not suppose to out of reach. I know it's hard because they are into everything but just be more aware than usuall. It will get alittle better as he grows up. He'll run with things but not eat them, hopefully. |
