oh no i think gizzie got a chocolate!!! I think my sonleft a box of valentines choc. on the floor and the top was gone and one choc was missing!!! the top is all chewed up I dont know if she got the choc or if maybe my son ate the one thats missing and he is spending the night with a friend so icant ask him how much chocolate is deadly what should i do |
Here you go: The good news is that it takes, on average, a fairly large amount of theobromine 100-150 mg/kg to cause a toxic reaction. Although there are variables to consider like the individual sensitivity, animal size and chocolate concentration. On average, Milk chocolate contains 44 mg of theobromine per oz. Semisweet chocolate contains 150mg/oz. Baker's chocolate 390mg/oz. Using a dose of 100 mg/kg as the toxic dose it comes out roughly as: 1 ounce per 1 pound of body weight for Milk chocolate 1 ounce per 3 pounds of body weight for Semisweet chocolate 1 ounce per 9 pounds of body weight for Baker's chocolate. So, for example, 2 oz. of Baker's chocolate can cause great risk to an 15 lb. dog. Yet, 2 oz. of Milk chocolate usually will only cause digestive problems. http://www.talktothevet.com/ARTICLES...olatetoxic.HTM |
thats geat info thank you, so even if she ate one chocolate, not sure if it would be milk or dark, the size thats normally in those small heart shaped boxes, she will be ok.... |
oh and she is only 2.7 lbs.... poor baby i try to be so careful:( |
we are going to bed its 1 am here i am going to put her in the bed with me so i can watch out for her, she got in to rolaids this morning which freaked me out enough and now this......... I try to keep everything away from her that could harm her and we just cant catch a break today........ |
anti-acid meds???? Did you call the vet on that one? I have peroxide available all the time because Snowboy, my Pommie, seems to find the oddest stuff to eat. He ate chocolate not too long ago and the vet had me use peroxide to induce vomiting. It only takes 3-5 minutes. Gross, though. Joanne :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :dog: |
Dogs can tolerate rolaids, although I am sure in a big enough dose it wouldn't be good. You are just having a tough time today! |
How is Gizzie today? |
