Pet Insurance...which one do you recommend?
 

Im thinking about getting pet insurance for my girls, but know little about it. Can anyone give me some insight on it? Which ins companies do you recommend? Do you know any that cover dental care too? Thanks! :)

I was looking into getting the ASPCA one, but still looking up on it, wish I could help lol I'm still in research mode myself!

I have insurance on my 2 yorkies. We go through PetsBest which is the one my vet recommended. So far I really like it. Its not cheap though. About $85.00/month, but that is for both dogs. They cover 80 percent of the bill basically. So when I even got my little girl fixed, etc... They do not however cover for any flea/tick prevention medicine, etc... They have a great web site under PetsBest Insurance.

My friend (who is in vet school) recommended the same insurance so they must be good if everyone uses them! lol

We have VPI. The insurance for Bailey costs about $35.00. It covers a lot, including dental, shots, spaying/neutering... You can find them by going to www.petinsurance.com. We have only had it a short time but I have relatives you use it also. Check it out!

I have VPI and am thinking of switching to Petsbest. I can tell you from experience that VPI does not cover spaying/neuturing and they also do not cover any "cosmetic dentistry" as they call it. My yorkie, like most, had to have some baby teeth pulled cuz the new ones grew out in front of the old ones. If left in, they can cause all kinds of infection. Unfortunately VPI would rather you wait until there's actually a problem then just pull them out. Either way i have not been very satisfied with them.

I tried calling them today and they are closed observing the holiday but I will call them tomorrow!

I'm going to look into this PetsBest insurance because currently we have VPI and it is HORRIBLE and has covered NOTHING when I have needed it.

I have Jambo insured with Pet Plan USA. Routine care is not covered but $8K annual with no maximum per incident, $0 co-pay, $50 deductible=around $320 for the year.

I have recently purchased pet insurance for Nolee. It is soo confusing! There are some which do no have coverage here in Louisiana. I finally decided on Embrace Pet Ins. Its back by Lloyds of London. I was able to choose the plan suited to my needs. Good Luck!

I was torn between Banfield & the ASPCA insurance. Banfield would definitely be the most convenient. If we planned to live here forever & didn't have family so far away, I would've absolutely gone that route. However, I ultimately ended up going with ASPCA due to the fact that I can go to any Vet I want in the U.S.A. This means a lot as 1) we move A LOT and 2) my family is down in Coastal GA and my husband's family is in Los Angeles. If something goes wrong while we're on vacation, or after we move from here, I can rest easy knowing that Amelia will be taken care of. No searching for the nearest PetSmart Vet & hoping & praying that the vet in the new Petsmart is a good vet.

I had originally considered VPI, it seemed like the best on paper, but I heard some bad reviews about coverage & actually paying out.

ASPCA has a $100 yearly deductible & $11,000 in yearly coverage/3500 per incident on the Advantage Plan (which is what Amelia is on). I was torn between the Advantage & the Premier (which has the benefits of flea, tick & heartworm medications) - however, I did the math & it comes out cheaper to just buy those myself than pay for it through insurance. I trust the ASPCA to do what's best for my pet.

Anyway, I haven't actually used it yet, so I can't tell you how quickly they pay out. However, I'll be using it very soon to cover Amelia's spay (which is a whopping $700 bucks where I am!), so I'll be sure to let you know!
