Yorki Leg Injury
 

Has anyone had major problems with luxating patella? My Yorki had an injury today and tore her ACL. She can not put any pressure on her poor little paw.
If there is anyone out there who has had this same problem, please let me know. We are to see a Dr. on Monday regarding this.:aimeeyork

Gracie has LP but not due to injury. She just had surgery. Feel free to ask questions, just PM me with the link so I don't miss it.

I went through the same thing last summer with Gabby. Not sure how it happened - was at baseball tournament with my youngest for a week - and when we got home that Saturday evening, she was limping. Asked hubby what happened and he didn't know. I suspect our lab puppy got a little too playful and she tried to get away. Anyway, took her to the vet on Monday and he said her ACL was torn. She had surgery to repair it the next day and spent two days there until I could bring her home. My vet said it would take at least 6 weeks before she would put any weight on the leg (it was her right rear leg) - it actually took about 8. For the first couple of weeks, her activity was significantly reduced - no running, no jumping - nothing! We crated her when we weren't home as we didn't want Gage (our other yorkie) accidentally hurting her or her hurting herself. There was a time I thought she'd never walk on it but vet showed me some exercises to do with her once the stitches came out and over time, she gradually began putting weight on it. That was mid-July and she is doing great now - will turn 12 on the 12th of this month!

Torn ACL
 

My baby also has a torn acl. I have read so much on the internet about this, that I am totally confused. I've been reading on the different websites that small dogs can heal themselves but it takes about 3 months. I am going to wait and see what happens. Good luck at the vet.

Hello Everyone! Thanks for your kind notes. Smooch had surgery on Thursday to fix her luxating Patella and her ACL. She is resting with me. I hate to see her so helpless. I know with time she will be as good as new. Dr. said she did great. The techs loved her and hated to see her go.

Keep praying for her. She goes back to the orthopedic Dr. in 2 weeks. Will Keep you posted!

Happy to hear she is doing well. I will probably end up having to do the surgery, but trying to hold off.

Good job, Smooch. It will get a bit better each day. Tell your Mom that Gracie is here to help if she has any questions! Follow the doctors orders and heal fast!

Thanks for the kind words. She seems to be better. She wants to play but I need to keep her on a short leash. She jumped off the couch the other day and nearly gave me a heart attack. She is encouraging play that has got to be a good sign.:thumbup:
