Oliver went to the vet- he's a sick boy
 

Oliver started getting little bumps all over his body after going to the groomers the other day...

Several became infected and I took him to the vet.

He has a fever, is on steroids and antibiotics and is (apparently) over weight :(

haha A lot of bad news at once.

Any shampoo recommendations for VEEEEEERY sensitive skin?
What kind of food could he eat that is good for overweight dogs (light??) and holistic?

You could feed less of what you are feeding now, go to a senior food (less calories) like Canidae or Innova or use a reduced fat food like (Wellness has one).

My vet sells pearls ... it's a good sensitive skin shampoo.

There are light foods ... but just like humans, eat less and exercise more should help :)

Poor little guy. Was it a reaction from the shampoo used.?
If so, I would call the groomer and tell her.
Try an oatmeal based shampoo. They are suppose to be really gentle
and help if there is any itching.
Wishing your baby a speedy recovery.
Also stay away from any food with corn in it. Sometimes chicken
can also trigger an allergic reation.

I second the oatmeal shampoo - but I would check with the vet & see given Oliver's specific condition which medicated shampoo he recommends.

Did he get an infection at the groomers? I would be speaking to them -- how sanitary are their conditions - or was he nicked & it got infected?? This needs to be addressed with them, and I think I would be sending them the vet bill.

Hey has gone to these groomers before and they know to used hypoallergenic shampoo... I haven't had this happen to him for a very long time.

But when he did get home andI realized the bumps were spreading I used some Epi-sooth shampoo from the vet, oatmeal shampoo and conditioner... (Which I always used) But it was too late and he continued to break out...

This is his third day of medication. The itch seems to have subsided... now it is just a matter of getting rid of all the bumps. :(

Please be cauious with Shampoos.

Check the label it has Sodium Laureth Sulfaten (SLS)

I I found out the hard way with Roxy. She began having dry flakey skin, then tremendous scratching all the time. I went through a few shampoos and settled on a Medicated One for skin issues. Well...totaly made her worse and she started to develop staph infections. This has been going on for almost 1 year. After doing some research, I do believe it is the following ingredient is the cause. Please check your labels, this stuff is in everything, if your baby has sensitive skin or skin issues, please research and find a product that is free of SLS:

Sodium Laureth Sulfate

Products containing these substances can affect those prone to eczema and other irritants. These substances provide a foaming quality to the product, allowing for better distribution of the product while washing hair or skin and while brushing teeth. When rinsed off, the product will have cleaned the area but will have taken moisture from the top layers of skin. In people with sensitive skin (prone to dermatitis, acne, eczema, psoriasis and chemical sensitivity), the drying property of these type of detergents can cause flare-ups of skin conditions or may worsen existing conditions.

For Roxy I am currently using Milksheen and NO conditioner and I make sure to rinse her VERY well - I run the shower on her for a LONG time to make sure theres no residue left. For problem areas on her skin I use Coat Handler Skin Works.

Otis has sensitive skin and I use minksheen on him. He usually scratches for several days after a bath. I only bathe him once a month unless he gets into something stinky!!

Poor Oliver I hope he gets better soon... you might want to try earthbath shampoo it's organic and made in San Francisco. I have the Oatmeal & Aloe Shampoo, the Hypo-allergenic Shampoo & also the face wipes, and the oatmeal creme rinse/ conditioner. No SLS. This brand works great for us.
