HELP- My new puppy is puking So we just got an 11 week old male yorkie. He has not had any vaccinations yet and we are planning on taking him first thing tomorrow morning. He was fine when we left the breeder's house but when we got him home he puked a few times and is very lethargic/sleepy. Granted, his commute to his new home included a 40 minutes ferry ride, 2 stops (gas & grandma's house) and 30 minutes or so of driving but we're a little concerned. Any ideas as to what the problem might be? We're hoping it's just that he's scared and lonely in his new home for the first day but maybe he's sick since he hasn't been vaccinated yet. Thoughts? |
Oh, it could be so many things-why no shots?? None?? Not wormed or anything! I think you need to call a Animal Emergency- or take him there- he is to little to lose so much fluids- I don't know for sure what to tell you to do- but get him to a VET ASAP! He could not make it to AM - you need to go- call and tell them your on the way!Better be safe than sorry! I hope you just go- the ones that could help the most might not see this tonight- and I think they would tell you to get him to a vet- fast! |
Sounds like he's going hypoglycemic on you. If you have nutrical, give it immediately. Karo syrup will work in a pinch. |
sugar water is quick too worst case.. keep him hydrated.....and warm..... has he eaten? good luck.. |
Has puppy eaten anything? Is the vomit yellow? That's stomach bile and happens when they have empty tummies. Do you have nytrical on hand? Give him some of that or karo syrup if you have no nytrical and get him to eat some food. |
He ate a bunch before we picked him up. His vomit isn't yellow- just brown like the color of his food. He was really rambunctuous when we picked him up because he was with 4 other dogs including mom/dad/brother so I think maybe he just needs a time out. Anyways, we gave him some sugar water and he drank a good amount and seems to be keeping it down ok. We're taking him to the vet first thing tomorrow to get vaccinated and a check-up so hopefully he's fine. Thanks for the advice. |
yea he might just not be a traveler.. and became sick from the trip.. just let his tummy rest til the morning... just keep a eye on him.. |
It is very common for Yorkie puppies to get car sick when they first start traveling. His problem is probably stress related. I always recommend honey and water for an upset stomach. I hope your puppy is doing better by now. Please keep us posted on how he is doing. |
The day I brought Buddy home he threw up all over me in the car. They can get motion sickness the first couple of times in the car especially if they have just eaten, which your pup did. Good luck at the vet's today. Hope your little one get's a clean bill of health. |
