Honking after Bordetella???? Chloe had her Bordetella last week, she has been making a honking noise and had a bit of a runny noise since. She occasionally coughs like she is going to "hack" something up. I don't remember Zoey doing this. Did anyone else have a reaction to Bordetella, or show any signs of nasal/throat irritation? It started immediatly after the vaccine. She did it a bit in the office, the vet said it was normal after the nasal admin. I am calling my vet in the morning. |
I don't get bordatella - never, ever - unless forced to board my dogs. She may actually now have kennel cough - so I'd def. talk to the vet. |

I don't get it either. |
Bordatella Hi Tootsie just had booster shots yesterday and Bordatella. Can they get kennel cough from this? I had no idea.I have had my vet for years, and put my complete trust in her.So far, Tootsie is fine. but I will keep an eye on her. Janelles |
dexter did the same thing after his bordatella. we will never get it again. we took him to a different vet who is wholistic when he started honking and she said that it can cause kennel cough, especially in the smaller babies. she said she only gives it out if the client wants it, and she would never had given it to dex when he was as small as he was (only about 2 pounds when the first vet gave it to him) the cough and honking went away after about 3 weeks. |
We got the Bordetella because she goes to the groomer. Im gonna be really ticked if she has an infection. I thought it was harmless.Called the Vet this AM. They said it is normal to have the honking symptoms for up to a week. She is eating/pooing/sleeping and playing normally. Im goning to give it a couple of days and then just show up on their doorstep if she isn't better. Thanks for all who replied. |
If you MUST get bordatella you should get the shot not the intra nasal. Just an FYI from long time breeders that I have talked to. |
Thank You For This Post Will Come Back To It In The Future ... My Baby Is Not Getting It Till I Research Why To Go Yt Mommies And Daddies Thank You For Keeping Us Informed!!! |
Chloe going back to the vet Chloe is still honking, gagging, sneezing, and has a runny nose. I called the vet and told them I don't care if it is normal, I want someone to listen to her lungs or get an x-ray. She is having trouble sleeping. We go at noon today. I'll let you all know what they say! |
Chloe has Kennel cough from the Bordetella vaccine!!!! She got the intra-nasal dose on the 17th. Symptoms started almost immediately. Today she got a shot of cortizone and is on a narcotic cough suppresant 3X a day! Im Sooooo pissed! My poor baby has been sick for a week. I should not have listened to the vet tech when she told me Chloe's symptoms were "normal." She coughs so hard that she gags and lets out a tiny yelp:mad: |
Yes, they so get it sometimes from the intranasal! Biscuit got his recently and Willow actually caught kennel cough from him (they like to kiss nosies). They both had kennel cough as pups, so luckily it was short lived and I knew what it was so we didn't take her in or get any antibiotics (they can actually prolong kennel cough). I just monitored her to make sure it didn't get worse or turn into a respiratory infection, and boosted her immune system with natural remedies and sure enough in a couple of weeks, it went away. I never get her the vaccine because she is soooo small and is potty trained indoors, but Biscuit goes out so he gets it. I don't think we'll get it for him anymore either.... Also-using a humidifier at night with vicks helps TREMENDOUSLY! |

I'm sorry.:( The problem with getting bordatella from the vaccine is that bordatella can cause pneumonia.:( I just don't think this vaccine is a good idea, especially since it has to be given atleast once a year. |
