New puppy shots? I talked to my vet and they said that if the puppy recieved its first set of shots before she was 8 weeks old then it dosent do anything for the dog... because its mothers somithing... fights it off... and that I would have to get her shots to start all over?/ is that true? or am I getting a run for my money? Also... dose anyone know how to find a good vet? tia |
Your vet is right. Puppies get natural immunities from nursing their mothers. Actually, those first shots often kill any remaining immunities the puppy may have and leave him completely unprotected. That's why it's so important not to take your puppy into any places where other dogs go like grooming salons, pet stores, dog parks and common areas where other dogs are walked until your puppy has had his full set of shots, usually around four months. Parvo especially is deadly for puppies. We had a family here this past summer who lost their two Pomeranian puppies to parvo. The puppies had had two shots and their owners thought they were protected. |
i agree i have heard that also my vet recommends them at 8 weeks not 6, and he recommends 4 sets too but every vet is diff im sure. ... |
My vet does shots at 8, 12 and 16 weeks :) Dawn |
That sounds right. I wouldn't start until atleast 8 weeks and give them three times. If you start at 6 weeks then vets will usually give them 4 times which is too many and not necessary. |
THANK YOU so much all of you!!! |
