Harley has Lice So, Harley has lice. I had to take him to the vet on Saturday and he had to get on meds because he has 2 small (dime size) patches of fur missing because he is a bit infected. I spent hours combing through him and I can't get everything off. I'm going to have to get him shaved, but no one can fit me in until later this week. Luckily I didn't get them. I think its because I wash, blowdry and flat iron everyday, and they say heat kills them. I don't know, but I'm just happy I didn't get lice! YUCK This has just been a nightmare. I've had to sanitize EVERYTHING and buy all sorts of stuff to clean with...not to mention the vet bill. :thumbdown So if anyone has any good advice on what can help with this mess...it would be appreciated!! |
Anyone? Please someone give me a great idea on what to do!! lol I've already done EVERYTHING I know to do...but you guys ALWAYS have something new to inform me about...about anything! So inform me already!! |
our outside beagles that my husband raises had lice back in the Summer. it was a mama and ALL her babies. Our vet told him that the Frontline Plus will kill them and it did!!!!!!!!!! You ought to just cut him down as best you can, apply the Frontline Plus and when he is rid of them, let the groomer straighten his coat out. |
I always thought lice couldn't live on pets... hmmmm icky, I learn something new every day on here. I'm sorry, I can feel ya, my kids had it and my oldest got it twice..... it was awful. We used over the counter stuff and it didn't work. What did work was mayo, sounds weird but it worked. The mayo smothers them. I greased up her hair and put a shower cap on her and then let her sleep in it, next day I rinsed her with vinegar and hot water. Worked like a charm. Wish I had known the first time because the over the counter stuff is like the nastiest chemical and I feel horrible for putting that on my child. Not sure how you could mayo him up without him trying to lick it. Maybe a cone collar..... |

I just looked up lice on dogs and it is different than what humans can get. http://www.pets.ca/articles/article-doglice.htm |
oh my goodness - I feel itchy just reading this. Your poor baby, hope all clears up quickly. |
If he got the Revolution on Saturday it's ok to give him another bath. I believe the Revolution info says it is absorbed within a couple of hours. Good Luck :( |
Yikes...how HORRIBLE! It would kill me to shave my babies...i would get a flea comb and try to comb them out first...Shaving would be the last resort.... :( |
Ucky!! I am itching reading this. Did the vet not give you instructions on how to get rid of the lice? I don't know to much on the lice issue but on some of the flea shampoos for dogs it will say that it kills lice too. Good luck getting rid of it,and I hope that you can get him all better soon! |

Great article! I feel sooo much better knowing that it is a different type of lice than what we get. I have been cleaning and scrubbing and itching since Saturday...and I'm wore out from it! Now I can relax a little. I'm getting him shaved tonight, and I'll give him another Sulfur shampoo to make sure I get em' all. I didn't want to shave him, but I know it will grow back, and I'd rather be 100% sure its all gone, then have him be pretty and still infested. |
Update! I got Harley shaved the other day to help us get rid of all the lice, which was yet another chunck of money! I had to give him another bath (this was his 4th one!) and comb through him again for an hour. The poor little guy is freezing now with no fur. So I had to go buy him a sweater since I threw his away when I found out he had lice. He looks ridiculous now, lol. But I still love him! The medicine they put him on since he had lost some fur gave him diarrea too. I thought I had gotten it all, but last night I found quite a bit on his face. I think it is because I couldn't scrub his face like I did his body. So tonight will be fun trying to pick everything off his face. UGH! I'm so sick of all this! And now I'm broke on top of it! |
