Tongue VS. Metal Threshold It is 10:52 P.M. EST and I'm thinking about calling the Emergency Vet. Lexie and I were outside and she is going through this stage where she needs to lick everything. Long story short she tried to lick the metal threshold of the door and in -10 degrees F, her tongue stuck to it. I was going to go inside to get warm water, but by the time I came back out with the water she had RIPPED her tongue off the threshold. She is bleeding now and she won't let me look at it. (And I can't convince her to stick out her tongue so I can see it  ) The bleeding doesn't seem too back but I can't really tell because she is licking her leg like CRAZY. I don't know if the soft hair makes it feel better or what but she is getting blood on the blanket under neath her. What should I do?! Should we go to the vet or is there something I can give to her or what?! HELP PLEASE!!! |
Oh gosh...i don't know...but I'm thinking maybe to try to get her to drink some cold water. Is there anyone there who could hold her so you can get a better look? I guess my last piece of advice is to get her to the vet if you think it's an emergency..Good Luck *crossing my fingers* |
can you call your own vet during off hours? If not I would get to the Emergency Vet - better safe. I am so sorry. How painful - We've got the same bone cold temps |
OWWWWWW! I meanth ooowwwththwhh |
My sister just got home from her basketball game and she held Lexie while I opened her mouth. It doesn't seem bad, just a TEENY TINY laceration. It isn't bleeding anymore and she is actually sleeping. If it seems to swell or bother her anymore, I'll call the vet and see what she thinks. Thank everyone for the quick responses!! :D I LOVE YT! |
Ok....I know it isnt the same, but my daughter did this a year ago...she was almost 2 at the time. The doctor wasnt able to do anything for her...he said that she would heal over time. She did eventually heal, but it took FOREVER!!! A soft scab (?) formed and she lost a lot of weight because it hurt to eat. I havent noticed any long term effects, in terms of her taste buds but I just remember seeing how skinny she got and it was heartbreaking. I would recommend taking her in...hopefully the vet will know something my doctor didnt |
