Just spayed my little girl and she's sick We just got our little 3 lb girl spayed today. (She's 7 months old). She has been throwing up since she got back from the vet. I'm not sure if this is normal or not. My vet is now closed...I'm worried. Should I take her to emergency or see how the night proceeds? She is not continuously vomiting...she has vomited about 3 times in the last 5 hours. Any suggestions out there? |
I thought after a spay they stay at the vets overnight?? I'd call emergency and take her in...Good luck..hope she starts doing better!! Poor Baby!! |
Definately call the er vet asap. When Cali was spayed she had it done at the er hospital due to some other health issues and they kept her 24 hours and then when it was time to get her they called and said she had thrown up and they were keeping her overnight again to watch her. They let her come home when she could keep down her food the next day. Please get her in. |
It is normal. The anesthesia makes them nauseous. Maybe call an er vet to see if they want to see her? Has she eaten? |
If you can at least get fluids in her and she keeps it down, that's good. Plain, unflavored pedialtye slowly syringed into her mouth will help keep her hydrated. After a few hours of her keeping that down, I'd give her some (a tablespoon to start with) plain rice with a little bit of low sodium chicken broth to make it moist and see how she does with that. After a meal or two of that, every few hours or so, add in some boiled unseasoned skinless boneless chicken breast, shredded. I'm sure it's the anasthesia messing with her tummy, I know it makes me sick as can be:( If she can't hold anything down at all, get her to the ER vet immediately. Prayers headed your way that she's just fine, but if something doesn't feel right get her in right away!!!! |
My lil one was just spayed 10 days ago and I was instructed not to give her any food the night of the spay, just little bits of water and if I ran into any difficulity to call his emergency number and let them know that she had just been spayed and would get ahold of him and he would call me immediately.... I read somewhere that sometimes they can get sick from the anasthesia. I would maybe try at least an ice cube to help keep her hydrated...but best to call your vets answering service and see if they can get of hold of him/her. or the emergency er vet and see what they say. Sending prayers that your lil one is alright...I know how nerve racking it is.... |
She's doing better! Hi..thanks for all the info. She is doing much better this morning....I called and got a little advice from a random ER nurse...she suspected the anesthetic too. Anyway, after a good LONG sleep, today there is no more vomiting and she's bouncing around here like nothing happened!!! I'm trying to keep her calm and quiet, but she has other plans, I think! Anyway, thanks again for all the good wishes and suggestions.:) :) :) |
I am so happy she is doing better this morning. |
Happy to hear GOOD news this morning!! ;) |
Lexus didn't spend the night either the day she was spayed, I picked her up at 5pm, she too was a little ill stomach wise from the Anastetics, but she shook it off after a day or so. |
HI! It's been 2 days now and I took her to the vet yesterday for a re-check, just to be safe. They said it was the anesthetic and that it is a normal reaction for some dogs. She seemed fine..good color and was perky so they sent her home and she's been playing ever since! I'm a bit over protective but I get a little nervous when ever my pups get sick because they are so small and dehydration can be dangerous. But all is well now!! Thanks:) :) |
So glad to hear that your little one is better now... :aimeeyork |
Glad to hear she"s doing better. |
So glad she is feeling better. Bless her little heart. |
:) I'm glad that all is well. I had just took my two little ones to the Vet too. I picked them up the same afternoon and they both shook all night. My little :aimeeyork Sweetie wanted to stay be my side all night. I think they were both a bit scared because they didn't know why they felt the way they did. :animal36 Oliver bounced back the next day but it took Sweetie two days. It has been three days now and they are both eating and acting more them selfs. |
