Please help! Coco had what we think was a seizure today. I took her for a walk, we came back in and she was playing with a friends kid. I was watching them so the kids didn't do anything to her she was just chasing them around. Then she laid at the steps and we just thought she was tired then she stood on all fours and the top of her body was really stiff and she was shaking. She did not lose conciousness. She then threw up. I took her to the vet afterwards and they gave her some anti seizure medication. She has been completely healthy up to know. She is 2 years and 6 months. She caught up on all her shots. They vet only did an exam and gave her that injection. Do you think she was just over worked, has anyone gon through this? Is she gonna be alright? Please help! I'm so scared. I don't even want her to walk right now. |
I am not sure  I think you need to make another appt. with your Vet asap. I would do a Complete Blood Panel and also a Bile Acid Test. Please keep us posted. |
i was just in orlando so i'm guessing it is still cold there and it wasn't because she got heat stroke?? A friend of mine has a dog that just got diagnoised with epliepsy... she had one seizure at the begining of december and the vet told her that she might never have another one again... or might have one in a year.. it's just so hard to tell. but if she did in fact start to have them regularily that she can be put on meds.... Sending you a big hug... i can't imagine how sick with worry you must be... please keep us posted |

I would take Coco to her regular vet and have a complete blood profile done. A bile acid test alone is inconclusive. How much does Coco weigh? Is she a good eater? Does she act "odd" about 2 hours after eating????? |
My Lady is an epileptic so I know more about the disease than I'd like to. :( Seizures can be a symptom of something like a liver shunt. Thyroid malfunction can also cause seizures. As the others have said, you should have a bile acids test done on Coco if she's never had one done before. Coco also should have a thyroid panel and CBC. If everything comes back normal, then you just wait and see if she has another one. If she continues to have seizures with no known cause, she would be diagnosed with idiopathic (organic) epilepsy, what my Lady has. This website is a wealth of information about seizures, from what to do during one to what can cause them. http://www.canine-epilepsy-guardian-angels.com/ |
Seizures I had to quit all shots in 2000. The rabies shot cause my little guy to have seizures and also great risk to his life with a collapsing trachea. He had his shots from 1994 to 2000. After I quit the seizures went away for good. I hope you can talk to your vet about this and he will listen. I had him for 13 years, and just lost him last month when his trachea gave out and he had a good life without anymore seizures. |
