Allergic Reactions To Flea Treatments Hello, i was wondering if anyone can help me. My 18 month old yorkie seems to be allergic to flea (frontline) drops. Everytime I treat her she seems to get so depressed and very lethargic-she also seems to hide her head as if she has a headache. I have just tried a herbal flea collar, but within 10 minutes she started getting depressed. Has anyone else ever had this problem? The vet said she may be allergic to pesticides-but the herbal treatment has none in? I do not want her to get fleas but I also hate to see her like this. Any help would be so appreciated. |
You are not alone, many of our doggies have reactions to these flea treatments. My Otis gets very nervous, salivates a lot, tries to chew at his tail and looks around at the floor like there are things crawling. It was very scary for me. I would look around online for homeopathic treatments. If you do a search here on YT, there have been formula's posted that are alternatives. Using different kinds of oils, etc. Good Luck, I know how scary it can be. Don't forget about good ole blue Dawn dishwashing liquid. I would stay away from frontline and others like it, for sure. |
First of all welcome to yt. I don't have any preventative suggestions but bathing your baby in Dawn original dishwashing detergent will kill the fleas instantly. We had a horrible flea season here and it worked great for Murfee. |

Gizzie breaks out in huge blisters that stuff is bad for our babies, i really like the flea and tick shampoo by ( i think the brand is softcoat?) you can buy it at petco, also you can get heartworm pills that also protect against fleas its called sentinel, kill 2 birds with one stone:) |
Roxy goes ballistic - she doesn't stop pacing and rubbing her face on the floor for 2 or 3 days. I can't touch her. She doesn't eat. I tried 3 different types - all had the same results so i don't use them on her any more. Even now, if she sees me open a small package, or part her hair with my fingers when I'm petting her, she's gone in a flash and hides. Remi, on the other hand, has had no reaction ever. |
If your baby has reactions to it, I would not recommend using it. There are natural ways to keep fleas from jumping on your baby. Try doing a quick search and see if you can find them. Those chemicals from Frontline are going into your baby's body and causing neurological symptoms. Ever wonder why it says not to let it come in contact with your own skin? As mentioned before, if by chance your baby gets a flea on her, you can bathe her in regular DAWN dish soap to kill the fleas :) |
