Tini and Legg Calve Perthes Just got back from getting the second opinion and wanted to update everyone and ask a few more questions. Both vets, my regular one and my aunt's agree that Tini does have LCP. She needs surgery and I have the name of a couple of surgeons. I have to say thanks so much to everyone for all your support and suggesions. Thanks to all of you I wasn't a total idiot and knew what to ask/do. While I am totally so sad that Tini has to go through this, I know you all will help us along. Now....for my question....to you Breeders out there... I have a "1 year warranty against disabling congetnital genetic defects" from the breeder as part of the contract to buy Tini. How should I present this information to the breeder so that they will be able to respond quickly? Do I need to send something from the vet? Do I just give her the vet info and her vet can call my vet? Any advice on how to handle this would be most appreciated. Thanks again everyone and I will keep you posted on our progress! |
I am sorry to hear Tiny is gonna have to have a surgery. I would present the info to your breeder. I am not familar with those type of contracts because I didn't have one. It seems the breeder would have to honor it though. |
I am so sorry for your Tini . |
Im so sorry that your little Tini needs to have surgery. I will have you both in my prayers. Regarding the 1 year warranty, I think you should present your breeder with the info from your vet. I guess breeders here are more qualify to answer this question. Please keep us posted. |
Thanks you guys! Hopefully one of the breeders out there can help me out and let me know how they handle these types of situations..... |
:( Poor Baby. You Will Both Be In My Prayers |
Sorry about Tini. :( Some contracts specify exactly how that is to be done. Have you gotten yours out and read it again??? |

Sorry to hear about Tini, I can understand your worries. Schatzie has been wonderful after her surgery to correct her LP and I pray that Tini has the same success. Notify your breeder asap and supply her a copy of the vet's written report and if possible a copy of the xray's. Schatzie was under a warranty also but I was too attached and bonded to send her back to our breeder. I had personally had some heart aches before Schatzie with some previous pups so my heart just couldn't handle letting go of my Schatzie. I am thankful I didn't because she's a happy dog on all four legs again! :p Hugs and thoughts go out to you and Tini. :aimeeyork |
You and Tini are in my prayers! I hate those contracts, once you discover a problem you are already in love, but at least let the breeders know about it. I know she will be fine, you're the one that's going to be stressed out! Take care of yourself for that little one! |
So sorry to hear about Tini's LPC. You should take or send a full report from the vet that you usually use and the one giving you a second opinion.. that has to be done BEFORE you have the surgery to be fair to all concerned. Make sure the vets state that this is a genetic propblem since that is what your contract stipulates. In many states, the breeder is only responsible for the treatment up to the purchase price of the dog. If your contract says that she will give you another puppy of equal value, and if you signed that, the breeder might not be required to give you MONEY, only another puppy. Others will tell you more legalese and correct me if I am wrong.. |
Hello...sorry to hear about Tini. I am also dealing with same troubles. Surgery has not been scheduled yet for Keiko. As for how to approach your breeder, my contract was also for one year health guarantee, replacement puppy if the one I bought had any form of genetic or congenial defects. Wish I never signed it. After having him almost 11 mths how can I just give him back? Not happening!!! I have informed my breeder but have had no good response from her. No offers of help, financially. Doesn't really matter either way my lil guy will be taken care of. My breeder is telling me this disease is "unknown" of origin. I still wouldn't take the chance and continue breeding the pair where my little guy came from. But she insists that just the dogs affected by perthes should not be bred. So time to do some in depth research. I for one don't think it just happens, its got to come from somewhere. KlowdDancer |
