Lump under skin Pippin is a little over 4 months. Last night I noticed a lump under his skin, just above his shouldier. It feels like a cyst. Do puppies ever gets lumps that disolve? Like a knot when you bump yourself? |
I would suggest calling the vet first and foremost ... Amateur response would be ... of course. Your baby is growing, it could be a fat pocket or something that is on its way in our out of the system. How big is it? Is it in the skin layers or attached to muscle underneath? Does it appear to be causing discomfort or impairing movement? Anything similar elsewhere on the body? |
Has your baby been microchipped?? |
It's less than a half an inch in diameter. I don't think it's attached to the skin. I'll have to check when I get home from work. It doesn't bother him at all when I touch it. |
Has he had any vaccinations lately? Many times they we get a small lump at the vaccination site that takes a few weeks to go away, checking with the vet is always a good idea if you are not sure. |
I agree with the notion that this is likely a response to recent vaccinations, but as you stated, calling the Vet for confirmation is always wise. When our Yorkie pup went in for her 4 month shots and micro-chipping she developed a lump similar the one described in this post. After calling the Vet and being advised that he felt it was vaccination related, we watched the lump as instructed. It remained for a couple of weeks and then just slowly dissolved. The lump appeared "larger" than one might imagine given our babies small size at merely a few months of age and don't always show themselves in larger breed dogs. |
He did get two shots a week and a half ago. He hasn't been microchipped yet. My vet was closed yesterday, but I'm giving him a call today. |
That was about how long it took before our Yorkies lump developed after her shot series. I believe that it was determined to be the Rabies vaccine that caused the swelling, due to the location of the lump. Our Vet gives each shot in a specific location and this helped in his knowing that it was a shot site that was swelling, which appears to be somewhat common in the little ones. Of course it is important to call your Vet for ideas/opinions, but I hope that this makes you feel better knowing that it could be something as simple as a shot site reaction. |
