Lethargic and not eating Hello all, My Yorkie is 19 weeks old and he is acting really weird: low energy, not eating his dinner, and overall not his normal self. His poop didnt show that he ate anything weird, nor did he eat anything out of the normal in the past 24 hours (as far as I know). I would say that he possible could be a picky eater b/c he is eating eating a chicken strip I gave him, did not eat his dinner today, and I can hear his stomach making these weird gurgling noises (but no diarrhea or vomit). Does anyone think he may be hypoglycemic? he is 19 weeks and 5.5. lbs so I thought he was passed that stage. I am trying to decide whether to take him to emergency or to wait til Monday to see the regular vet. As a side note yesterday he played with another puppy friend of his for 3 hours straight - I am talking they would not stop biting and tussling with each, could he still be tired from playing all day yesterday? Its almost like Bailey is eerily to calm and not nippy which is not normal for him - he is sitting under my feet now. Not neutered yet either.... Please advise :-S |
He could be tired, but I would try a little nutrical just in case. If you don't have any, Karo syrup will work, or honey. He is still pretty young, and if he played pretty hard he could have burned his glucose reserves. If the sugar doesnt' work you probably will want to take him to the emergency vet. Good luck and let us know how he's doing. |
He eventually ate half of his food and perked up a little bit. I may be being a first time "mother" and freaked out a little bit. I stayed home while everyone went to the movies tonight, just to be on the safe side. I will keep you updated - thanks for the advice. |
I'm glad he perked up a bit. I can so remember being nervous about every little thing when Scout was teeny. I kept a tube of nutrical in my purse..hehe |
lol - hmm lol Thanks so much! |
It was the kong filler food, it came out in his poo - we gave it to the puppies in a kong to keep them occupied. i guess we will have to try peanut butter, I knew that filler would tear up his little stomach. |
I'm glad he's picking up. I always put peanut butter in my kong. |
he's been eating candidae and all other more natural food since I got him. So that's probably why the manaufactured kong filler irritated his stomach. Peanut butter for me from here on out as well. |
