I was in emergency today I was in emergency today. Jess is perfectly fine, no symptoms of sickness. BUT. she has been liking her vulva a lot for last few days. She was in heat a few month or so ago (don't know for sure). I decided to looked at and... her vulva is RED. doesn't look right at all. I went to the vet immediately. her blood test is OK, her urine test is not good. some crystals have been found, but the test was not complete because Jess didn't have enough urine. He told that this is not pyometra, but I don't feel safe.... he gave an antibiotic for 10 days to see if it go away and then she will be spayed. BTW, I do know that in a case of pyometra, antibiotics do not help, only surgery. again - she doesn't have any symptoms of sickness. I was calling to my regular vet, but he is an hour from my house. I want to come to him tomorrow morning, but he (honestly) wasn't sound to happy about... Christmas coming>>>> what is a bad luck for my baby before holidays....:( if it is NOT a pyometra, what else it can be? |
I have no idea but want to wish you the best. I will say a prayer for your baby. |
thank you. i feel so unsafe.... she is playful, eats good, drinks as usually.... |
I have no idea what the problem is. Is her vulva just an irritated red color or is a red liquid coming out? She is probably fine since a vet looked at her. Why can't you go to your regular vet tomorrow? |
Hopefully it is just irritation from a urinary infection. Would she have a fever with pyometra? Hope she feels better soon. Hope your Vet is willing to let you come in and put your mind at ease. |
i want to come even he is not too happy about. he is one of the best specialist in area... i didn't see red liquid, but her vulva looks like sort of irritation/big allergy reaction - symmetrical (at least looks like) |
the reason i am in panic - i am afraid of pyometra.... my fault - i didn't fix her on time. |
Please try to relax about the pyometra. Since the vet said it isn't that and with open pyo you would see liquid coming out. It may be some kind of UTI or stones/crystals. What about an infection (yeast perhaps)? |

Yes, there is open pyo (uterus drains fluid) and closed pyo (no drainage at all). Why would her vulva be red if there is no liquid there and the problem is in the uterus? Closed pyo doesn't cause a red or itchy vulva, does it? I'm just trying to talk you out of being nervous.:) Did they do an xray or ultrasound to look at the uterus since you are so concerned? |
I can't really add much other than what I have learned is go with your gut. If you feel something is wrong, than I would insist on being seen by your vet, Christmas or not. I wish you the best of luck. I know how awful it is to worry about your baby not knowing what is wrong. |
Here's my thoughts and I'm certainly no expert. When you said there was some crystals in the urine, it leads me to believe she may have a urinary tract infection. If this is the case, it would be very uncomfortable for her and she may be licking herself trying to relieve pain and has caused irritation. I hope to hear a positive update from you soon...best wishes and I'll say a prayer for her! |
update. I went to my vet this morning. Unfortunately, we again couldn't take urine test, but there is still no emergency. Jess has to take antibiotic for at least 7 days, my vet gave a cream from eczema, and after her treatment I am going to fix her. Thank you all :) |
