Help, my dog is freaking out. Last night I put ear drops in Bandit's ears. I used "Ear-Rite" ear wash. I only put about 2 drops in his ears even though the directions said 10 drops. Afterwards his ears seem to really bother him so I was massaging them for a while. The directions said to swab with cotton. Since he is so small (4 lbs) I gently took a Q-tip and cleaned around his ears. I didn't go IN the ear. Since then he has been acting like he's freaking out. He's shaking like crazy. Runs real fast, low to the ground, then stops. Then he'll run again. He's make quick and sharp movments. Almost like he's on drugs. His heart is racing and I can't get him to stop shaking. He's acting like a totally different dog. I put the drops in his ears around 8:00pm. It's 3:00am now and he's still acting crazy and I'm very upset. He just went to he vet 2 days ago for his routine shots and check-up. All his tests including bloodwork came back normal. Has this happend to anyone else?? What do I do?? Please help. |
He might have an ear infection, in which case the drops may have stung:( I'd call the vet about this, in case meds are needed. I hope he feels better soon:lv: |
Shaking is not normal after medication. I would call your vet immediately. |
I agree with the others... that seems like such strange behavior - and I would definately call the vet for advise... |
My yorkie will usually run around and wiggle his body on the bed, on the couch, on the carpet but not shaking. Maybe it is an ear infection. |
Yorkie's can be pretty sensitive, he may be having an allergic reaction. I would call your vet. |
this shouldn't happen just from a regular ear cleaning. he may be sensitive to that brand. are his ears now red and irritated? he also may have an ear infection. I'd take him to the vet. |

Thank you everyone for your replies and concern (This is an awesome forum). Turns out that 2 days prior to the ear drop incident, he got his distemper shot. The reaction he was getting was from that. I spoke to other dog owners and they said their dog acts the same way about 1 or 2 days after their shot. And I was thinking I messed him up with eardrops  He is now back to his playful normal self (whew!!) Thanks again for eveyones help :thankyou2 |
