Questions about BAT Hi, I have a some questions about Bile acid test. I was suppose to take my furbaby to get her restest of BAT done tom but it seems like I am not able too cuz she has NOT had all her shoots due to coughing, sneezing, and hacking. The kennel vet had told me not to give her any shoots until she is well or off of the antibiotic. Now, since she is not UTD on her shoots, I dont feel safe to take her to the vet and leaving her there to do BAT. Precious and other pets at the vet may catch something. I spoke to the reception lady and she was going to have the Dr call me tom (today is her day off). So as of now the appt is CANCELLED til I speak to the Dr. This is not the kennels vet, its my vet that I use for my other furbabies. She has never seen Precious, tom would of been the 1st time. What if the Dr says I cant bring her in?? How am I suppose to get her tested? What should I do guys? Pls help me! Any advise would be great! |
How old is she? When were her last shots? What were they? |
i would not think that her vacs have anything to do with her being BAT'ed. Diggy was only 10 weeks old when he had his BAT so he was not complete on vacs either and they tested him without any problem. |
not having shots have nothing to do with the BAT... In fact, many owners of liver compromised dogs do not have them vaccinated at all... |

I am thinking the problem is that there is a concern having the dog in the hospital while being unvaccinated since it might "catch" something, is that right? If you are worried about her catching something you can take her home in between blood draws. |

Then she should be done with her puppy shots. Did she get three rounds? What shots does she need still? |

i asked the vet if i can be w/her during the time but they recommened that i dont wait around, this is before i remembered about the vacs. i am not sure wut the Dr will say tom when she calls me. hopefully she will let me take her home. i mean that is possible, right? |
I know my vet has an isolation room for animals that haven't been fully vaccinated yet that is seperate from other dogs and diligently keeps animals seperate. Ask if they have one of these. Also, I was under the impression that "most" doggy sickness doesn't spread through the air, it's spread through fecal contact. So, since your baby is small, they will probably carry her and keep her off of the floors anyways. Maybe just ask to see where they will be keeping her in between draws and if you feel like its not sanitary enough ask for further advice. Hope this helps!! :) |
Actually, being on antibiotics could skew the test results anyway so it might be best to wait. How many times has she been to the vet for vaccines? Most vets probably wouldn't let you wait there with her (atleast not in the back). Some might let you wait in the waiting room though if you want. It is possible to go home with her in between. You have to get her back there exactly two hours after eating though. |

the vet got suspicious and did a BAT on 9/27, her levels were 95.4. since 9/27 i have been waiting for a month to retest and tom was my appt date but it looks like i wont be going in tom til i speak to the Dr. she got 2 pup shots and she still needs 1 more round of pup shot (or i may have to start all over), also needs rabies. |
