Can Yorkie's get foot cramps? About an hour ago my baby and i were playing fetch when he all of a sudden started whimpering and had his left paw in the air very tight and rigid. I thought maybe he'd stepped on something. i laid down with him and massaged his little leg and the joint and I checked for anything in his paw - saw nothing. About 30 minutes later he was chewing his chew toy and it happened again...only to his OTHER foot/ leg. I grabbed him again and massaged his little leg and he was all better. He's running around just fine, playing, jumping...doesn't seem to be in any pain. i"I've just never in my life seen such a thing in a doggie. Please tell me this is just cramping or something? I'm a little nervous to say the least. :( :( |
I have never heard of cramps in their feet, but I suppose that could happen. My thought was LP (Luxating Patella) which is when the kneecap goes out of place. My Libby has that and that is what she did when it hurt her...held it up and out. Your vet would be able to tell if that was the problem, just by feeling his legs. Was it is front or back legs that he held up? Normally LP is in the back legs. Hope this was a one time thing and you don't notice it happening again! |
it keeps happening. its just his front legs. i thought it was over but I woke up this morning & it happened again. it seems to go away when I massage his leg and the joint but that's it =( I'm going to call the breeder & see if he possibly knows what it could be... uggh |
the breeder has never seen such a thing as leg cramping either but he did say he had a puppy that pulled a muscle so that could possibly be it... its horrible listening to him cry in pain like this :( |
I'd probably take him to the vet to have it checked out. I've never heard of this before. |
that's weird. i'm not sure what it could be. normal playing shouldn't be a problem. i'd take him to the vet if this persists. |
*sigh* i made an appointment for Monday morning for the Vet... I'm really nervous as to what on earth this could be. The vet told me to give him baby asprin as a muscle relaxer if it persists & he seems to be in a lot of pain. I'll let you know what I hear  |
