What color is your yorkie's poop? I am sorry for the discretion of this material, but I just wanted to see if my dogs are the only ones with black poop. |
lol this is the most interesting poll i've seen in a while... lol.... Layla's goes from brown to black. |
It wouldn't let me vote for two colors. :D But Rudys goes from Black to Brown also. |
LOL Ditto:) |

Hi all, I changed my dogs food and she was okay with brown poop. But for this week the colour is changed to a yellow/mustard colour, should I stop the food and go back to her old food? Thanks a lot. |

If it has been a while since you changed the food, and she's had two or more stools that are this off color, then I would scoop up a stool sample and drop it off at the vet for testing. Here's an article from PetMD by Jessica Volgelsand, DVM, "What Should My Dog's Pool Look Like?." This article, as well as others on the subject, indicate that yellowish stools MAY indicate issues with the "pancreas, liver or gallbladder." Here's a 2015 article--includes pictures--from Healthy Pets with Dr. Karen Becker, "When Your Dog's Poop Looks Like This, Visit Your Vet." Hope this helps. |
Hi Katysmom, Thank you so much. I did go to the vet on Friday. She said that nothing to worry about as the dog is very healthly. She said that the food is light in colour so the poop is changing similar to when we eat colour foods. MY yorkies poop is now a browny yellow, 2 toned. I am keeping an eye on her. The vet said that if it worries me too much I should change her food back to the old one.My yorkine seems to really enjoy this Dr Hahnz brand, I reported to the company and they said that no food colorants are used. They did not get any reports from yorkie parents on any issues with the food. My dogs breath does not smell like when she was on the Royal foods. Will see how she goes on and provide an update. |

Thank you the love and care you show your little one, also for the update. Food alone does influence bowel movement color. My late little one sometimes pooped in multiple colors. Not so much a mixed color as sections that were different colors. I attributed the color combination to times when I had fed her too many treats, different kinds of food or to canned food with distinct veggies. You mentioned your yorkies breath improved with the change in food. Good breath is always nice! I'm glad the vet felt there was nothing to be concerned with at this point. Keep on lovin' your sweetie. |
Okay so I put Xena back on her old food just for my peace of mind. She is enjoying it, her poop is all normal again. I do monitor her poops daily now. She has been burping up food not large amounts and her tummy was making the stragest noises last week. She is back to normal and a very happy pooch and loves playing with her toys and a happy tail wagger..Love her so very much and I think I am way over porotective of her..lol |

You wrote, "I do monitor her poops daily." I know some folks see this as a chore--but I quickly came to see it as part of good parenting. They are so small, don't like to complain, and their well-being can change quickly. Thank you for being such a good pet parent. I wouldn't worry about feeling overprotective. These little ones are deserving of our overprotective instincts. Bless you. -- KatysMom |
I check my guys poop for color, shape and consistency every day, if something changes I take a sample and off to the vet we go. I do not feed my guy anything other then his food and treats, so if his poop is off something is not right. |
