Hair in mouth Silky-haired Jack frequently gets hair caught in his mouth, and I'm wondering if that's common. Do you catch your dogs chewing on their hair like they're trying to spit it out? Is there any way to deal with it? Cottony-coated Eddie doesn't have that problem. |
Yes. Bailey's does that..sometimes when he yawns I flick it out for him. |
Only thing I know to do is to go into the Octagon with them, get them in a submissive position, force their mouth open, reach in and pull the hair out. If anyone has a better suggestion (besides cutting all the hair off) I'm all ears! |
No Buddy never had the problem. I have the hair cut slightly alittle further back from his mouth so there is no problem and it just falls down the sides. Must be uncomforable spitting out hair from time to time.:( |

I finally gave Gracie a teddy bear cut around her face. That fixed the problem temporarily. I know it is time for a trim as her hair is starting to get caught again! |

I wonder if it's a silky dog thing and cottony-coated Yorkies don't have the problem. Then again, I don't have a long-haired cottony Yorkie. |

I think Winston is not silky...and yes, he tries to eat his hair. I just tell him "you can't eat that, it's attached"...and simply take it out. Then of course it's all slimy..."Time to wash your face little boy"... |
Buckeye is fairly long hair with cottony coat and he has the same problem. I am always pulling his hair out of the corner of his mouth. |
As most of you know, I am with Toto 24/7. She gets her face hair in her mouth and I just keep an eye on it and get it out. Sometimes she gets it out herself! Smart girl, that one! :p |
It happens to Haruka... I just take it out each time I catch her struggle with her own hair in her mouth. |
Cali has that problem, so I keep a close eye on it and check her mouth evry night. |
