Microchip...is yours? How many of us members have their loved ones microchipped? I got my dogs done this past Saturday. Our local Adopt-A-Pet was doing them for $15.00. Since Saturday, they've gone up to $25.00. Now, I know that there has been some study and that some dogs/cats have developed cancerous lumps at the injection site. However, with all of the dog thefts going on lately, I thought it would be a good idea. I was told that every vet here in town, along with the animal shelter and the sheriff's department, has a scanner to scan animals. My only problem is that I could pick up a stray, say that I have had it for several months and never be doubted by my vets. How many of these vets actually scan each and every animal that comes in to see if there is a microchip and then, how many will actually call the company to see if the person that brought in the dog is actually the person that the dog is registered to? Anyway, I hope that I never have to report another dog missing...but if I do, at least there will be some way to identify them. |
I have all of my dogs microchoipped and even my pups. I have discussed this in length with my vet since I did not want to give my dogs anything that could harm them in the future. He assured me that it was very safe and no need to worry. They (microchip agencies) are considering using one type so there would be no problem with reading the chips - no matter what brand you used. I think this is a great idea. I have a feeling too that AKC will go with this in the future as well part of the registration requirement. This is what an AKC representative commended on at one of my all-breed club meeting. AKC is discussing it now. It may take around 5 years to get it into place if they decide to do this. T. |
I went out and got it done after a poster here (can't remember who) back in January had one of her dogs taken right out of her yard. I think it was someone in OC, CA. Anyway, I went out like the next day and got it done. The procedure took one second. She let out one good yelp and was done with it. |
Chips I had Mim's chipped the day she went in for surgery. The bad thing is that if they dont have a scanner it is no good. But I keep the faith and hope if something goes wrong she will be returned to me. But for the most part I don't let her out of the yard anymore with out her leach. Peach aka Mim's mom:aimeeyork |
yes , lexi was before i got her.. |
Both Benji & Bella are done too. I think it is such a good idea. |
Sissy was chipped last year and I'm planning on having Angel done as well. Our local animal shelter does it for $20. |
1 Attachment(s) Yep both Kallie and Toby were microchipped promptly at the local clinic for just $10.........my vet wanted $40 each!!!  |
I was assured that the chip that my dogs got was a universal chip that any scanner could read. Hopefully, they're right! |
Both Boo-Boo and Pheoebe were chipped two weeks ago. Just like a guy Boo-Boo was the only one to cry. Us girls are quite strong...LOL |
All of mine are chipped. Except the one that was stolen out of my back yard in December. I'd just got him in November and he was really sick so I didn't get him chipped yet. That's the one that was stolen. |
Never had mine micro-chipped, and I've never really thought about it, and it was never offered or suggested by my Vet...hmmmmmm...something to think about!:animal-pa |
Bailey was done when he was neutered at 6 months. I think it was 30 dollars there. |
Got mine done today. Only reason is because he will be staying with my mother-in-law while I go back to my country to visit my parents..in case he runs out or something..its better that I can find him the not. |
The next time mine goes to the vet, he is getting microchipped. I thought it was a good idea when I saw all the yorkies being stolen and lost. |
