I really do think that leaving your dog home alone once in awhile is the best thing you could do for it, and I'll tell you why; I got a 3 month old long haired red Chihuahua out of the shelter back in July and named her Libby. I got her only to find a really super home for her, and I certainly did. A freind in San Jose who had no husband, kids or dogs and is retired took Libby and NEVER let her stay home alone. Libby went everywhere with her mommy and by the time Libby was about 8 months old, she started being a bit nasty. She would growl, nip and all with her mommy and anyone else. Her mommy took my advice and started leaving her home alone once in awhile, and she has not shown aggression since. You have to show them that they are not the alpha. |
Absolutely!!! We work. They chill in their crate. When we get home, they get our full attention. We run errands, like to the grocery store. They chill in their crate. When we get home, they get our full attention. Happy yorkies, happy humans. :D |
I think it's hard for the average person not to leave their yorkie home alone. Mr. Biggs is onyl ever really alone for 4 or 5 hours at a time while my BF and I are at work and school and such. Since he's fully trained, he has complete run of the house. I know he loves it, because when we come home all of his toys (and I do mean ALL of them) and scattered around the house! Plus, it's the best feeling in the world to be welcomed home by tons of yorkie kisses. :) |
Yes, they are left alone for short periods throughout the day while I do errands. I can't take them with me to the supermarket, and I'd NEVER leave them in the car, so it can't be avoided sometimes. :aimeeyork |
Gracie has to be left alone when I go to work. She is secure and safe in her ex-pen. |
Well I don't have a Yorkie yet but yes he or she will be left at home at times but not often as I am a stay at home wife. I will take him or her with me wherever I can of course but in all reality guys somtimes we go places that do not allow dogs and though we hate leaving them, we have to. I mean have you ever seen somone in a nice restaurant with their dog by their side? lol Though we consider them our little babies other people see them as dogs. So at times it is necessary to leave them at home. We just gotta make sure we aren't neglecting them and still are giving them plenty of attention when we are home. Awww! I love Yorkies!!! |
hi everyone, yes i do leave my 20 month old yorkie home when i go out whether it is for chores or a few hours on the weekends. i work at home, so for the most part i am home with him and our 3 cats. when sammy - yorkie , lucy, elvis and pricilla are home by themselves they have complete run of a 1 bedroom condo (600 square feet) and they get along great. i have one large 6 level cat tree which they have to retreat on , besides the couch . i do leave the bedroom door closed , so actually it is way less that 600 sq. ft to roam around, but we are all happy here ! he is completely housetrained , so i really have no problems with that. lucy came first and she is 8 years old now sammy was bought from a breeder at 14 months old so he came second and thats 6 months ago elvis and pricilla were 2 years old when they came to live with us and that's 4 months ago. they are brother and sister so everyone has had a adjustment period and everything is working out great. |

Mine are left alone but never for more than about 4 hours. I think if they are never left alone, you're asking for trouble down the road. What happens if you have to go somewhere and they can't go? What if there is an emergency and you HAVE to leave them behind? Whoever you find to take care of them then will have a heck of a time and the dog will have an even worse time. I'm off work for at least 6 weeks cause of surgery and my dogs and I love being together all the time. I know it will be a bit hard for all of us to get back to our normal schedule, but that's life. Sometimes I think they enjoy being alone so they can just rest instead of following us around all the time...:D |
Complete Trust! I have 3, Artie, Abigail and their 6 1/2 month old baby girl. They are left alone @ Home, on Wed.,Thursday, Saturday & Sunday 7 pm. to 4 am. since I do have to go to Work to support my "Yorkie Habit"! Otherwise they go every where with me and if they are not allowed to go where I go? They wait in the Car, I Trust them completely to behave and act right in every situation regardless of where we are and who is around. Artie is 3 yrs. old and Abigail is 2 yrs. old they are so used to a set schedule and a routine. Luckily, they learn fast are trained easily since I have no "Alpha" issues they accept me as their "Pack Leader" so I don't have to deal with any Power struggles anymore. I think I am the one that is insecure without them, especially Artie.....any time away from him seems too long! |
winston, 3 years old, is left alone while we work, we use a baby gate to keep him safe and happy, i really think he sleeps all the time we're gone, but his food and water are there, and of course a few "special" toys and his bed and blankie. :) |
I leave all three of my dogs home alone everyday when hubby and I go to work. |
Hannah is left home alone, but not for long periods, and most of the time she has free run of the house. |
My dogs stay home alone when we go to non doggy friendly places. IE dinner, grocery store, etc. My large dog stays in our spare bedroom and our two little ones run around the rest of the house. |
