Cutting nails Just wanting to know who cuts/does not cut or vetenarian cuts thier yorkies nails? |
I would if Alex wasn't such a wiggler. I am afraid I will hurt him. I take him to the groomers every three weeks. I have tried an after an hour and minimal progress,I have stopped. |

I generally groom him and cut my parents Golden Retrievers nails. With Goldens you can at least see the quick and there is more to grab onto. With Alex he throws his body, head and legs in all different directions. Basically, it is next to impossible for me to do it. The groomer even commented last time that he was being a stinker. :) |
I took buddy to the groomers right after we got him 8 weeks old, they said to have them trimmed every 3-4 weeks and the vet said same thing so we had the groomer do it that day. Seemed to help ALOT and didn't seem to squirm or appear in pain while doing it but I sure didn't wanna do it as I don't want to hurt him. The vet also recommended taking him for short walks on the sidewalk, that it would naturally take the "bite" off the nail (so it wouldn't be as sharp), Buddy always heads for the grass tho or wants to be picked up after a short walk. Neat thread tho I wondered what most folks do, im too chicken to do it myself and dont wanna hurt him but BOY were they SHARP at 8 weeks... Bill :) |
My husband holds Jack still while I just nip the hook off with human nail clippers. I also walk him once a day on asphalt. |

Trish, What is the status right now for bringing dogs into Britain from the U.S. I know you can bring them from Europe because of the Chunnel. We are coming over next year and I would love to bring Jack. |
Hi Jill I've pm'd you Trish :) |
I cut Stewie's nails. It was difficult at first, but now he sits like a Little Angel if I hurry up. I think anyone can do it. You just hafta be quick :p |
Option two and three of the poll are pretty much the same... |
I cut both of my dog's nails Quote:

Summer - glad to have you back. |
I cut Otis's nails, but I went a little too deep on one nail last time, and he squealed and it made me scream really loud because I'm sooo not used to hearing him squeal. I think Otis was more shocked that I screamed than about his toenail. |
Lucy gets really funny when anyone tries to do anything to make her pretty or healthy (no idea why, as we have had her since puppy) we have a groomer who does her coat every 6 weeks or so and she does her nails as well. I feel it is worth paying a pro to do it as Lucy can work herself up so much that it is safer on her part if someone who really knows what they are doing does it. I dont want to be cutting a nail and accidentally take off half an ear lol! |
