How much would you pay for.... How much would you pay for a Professional Dematting of your beloved dog??? Keep in mind... you are saving your dogs coat! Every groomer in town has told you that they WILL NOT! brush out your baby and that your ONLY alternative is to SHAVE them down to the skin!!! Did I mention that its fast approaching winter??? You do remember seeing an ad for one gal who claims to be able to dematt ANY dog!!! With Minimal coat loss Guaranteed!!! But you hear she's pricy, and she takes a long time... cause after all, its not a quick shave... its a time consuming process! Is it worth a shot?? Is your baby's coat that valuable to you??? What would you pay for this kind of service?? A service that almost no other groomer is going to spend a 4 to 8 hour day on.... (one hour on and a half hour off... working in shifts as long as it takes) Assuming your dog's coat is deemed unsaveable by your groomer... |

I would pay up to 200.00. I really like the long coat and would never want to shave her down. I would probably want to do it in 2 sessions as to not stress her out so bad. |
No But I dematted a friends dog and my two... and she said that it was a priceless service! lol well, I need to put a serious price on it!!! grooming around here is pricey... and they will NOT do dematting! especially on TOY breeds! Its WAY TOO TIME CONSUMING! But I can!!! :p I'm just sitting here... And I'm soooo good at it! And I am so set with my table and I have some serious equipment! I bought a ton of grooming stuff, oster clippers, a dryer, 3 sets of awesome shears, straight edge and thinning and a blunt tip pair... I really went wild... I did this like 3 months ago... Plus all of the CC brushes, I have 5 cc combs and 3 brushes, a slicker... lol I am so a compulsive shopper... Incase any of you have not picked up on this yet:rolleyes: And the CM is a HUGE HELP! lol ;) So anyway... I thought I'd do some local advertising and talk to a few store owners and get the word of mouth going! Matting is a huge issue down here... The desert is so dry and the wet grass... and the oh so busy owners... bla bla bla.... There is a marker for it... I'm sure of it!! All I need to do is figure out what I can charge for it... I know I'd pay any price to save Pixie and Paris's coat... but I'm not everyone... So help me out guys! |
Oh... and I will only be doing Toy breeds... under 15 lbs.... Or about... for sure not over 20.... lol But I am serious about sticking to smaller dogs!!! No sheep dogs for me!!! lol |
I voted $75 b/c I can't afford anymore right now. (sigh) |
Do you do house calls? :D Alphy's not matted but he sure would love and could use a good groom. |
a good formula Quote:
Well, I would pay 200$ if it were really an issue to me, however, I keep Monday in a puppy cut ... if 'matting' is a big problem where you live ... go for it ... and figure out what it would cost at 40-50 dollars an hour. I pay 66$ here on Long Island for Monday's regular grooming every 6 weeks ... so judge from what people pay for a regular grooming and 3 or 4 times that would be about right .... whatcha think??? Debbie |
That is a GREAT way to look at it Debbie!!!! Thanks for the Insight!!!! |
Ive had to do it before with Jewels and she charged $75 |
I'd prolly cut it off to be honest. His hair would grow back... I just can't afford to spend money on dematting, I'd rather shave it and spend that money on clothes for him or somethhing...BUT if I knew YOU were right around the corner...I'd pay big money!;) |
I doubt that i would pay anything. I'm a very self relient person, so like you, I would do it myself. If I were going to do it for others, I guess I would first determine how long it might take me and then charge a reasonable "per hour" price. I won't even pay to have mine groomed. I enjoy doing it myself. My guess is people would pay around $100 for it. but that's just my guess. |
I keep my 2 in puppy cuts and I brush them everyday, and I would NEVER let thier coats get this bad, but if it did for some reason get so bad that no groomer in town would touch it, I would shave their coats. They are not show dogs and their hair will grow back. This is just something that is really not that important to me. Shaving them would also give me the opportunity to really condition and pamper their skin. |
I voted $100, but that would only be if it was a major issue for me. I groom my own dogs and they never get matted. I also like them better in shorter cuts. But if it really mattered to me, I'd say $100 would be the limit. Over that I would shave them down. (They'd still be adorable!) :aimeeyork |
I'd honestly shave it down if it was really "that" bad. I wouldn't want to put them through the stress. The hair grows back and as careful as one might be it still hurts to pull just alittle. Plus I think $75 and up would be way to expensive. Groomers in my area charge $25 for grooming and I think that is reasonable, however I've been doing it at home myself. |
I am stupid Quote:
Debbie (stupid) well, car dealerships also I think |
Erm. I'm not sure. I mean, I don't think I'd pay that much.....if anything. Their hair will grow back. I guess I'm not sure because I don't have one with really long, glamerous hair. Tucker's in a puppy cut and Maddie's isn't too long. Maybe if I had one with a really long coat I'd feel differently. |
I would do anything and pay anything to save my dogs coat! |
I voted $50 - only because I paid $40 the last time for his hair to be completely shaved down  Not that I was happy with it BY ANY MEANS (it was NOT what I asked for!!!) - BUT! It IS only hair...and it WILL grow back ;) So if I paid $40, might as well pay $50, right? lol. Not to mention, his hair grows VERY fast! I would normally spend ANY amount on my little guy - especially health wise....heck, I'd take out a LOAN if I had to! But hair is hair, it'll grow back faster than you realize ;) However, I don't even have to worry about this because I groom him myself LOL |
I voted $150. I would give at least a $15 tip. But if it was so severe that it would hurt my baby, then I could just shave it all off and start fresh. I keep Tia and Codie in a puppy cut but I was thinking of letting Tia's hair grow out a bit. Not too long, just a little longer then it is right now. |
I would pay up o $100, but it all depends on the length of their coat, if it isn't much longer then a puppy coat, I say shave it off! But if it's mid lengh to floor length, I guess we're spening all day at the groomers until it's untangled:rolleyes: . |
Prices much lower in the midwest! Guess I am lucky because although I usually groom mine myself, I do occasionally take them to the vet's office if they get mats that I cant deal with. They charge less than $20.00 and that includes a bath and trimming their nails. So I am tooo spoiled to be spending even $50.00 to have someone else do it. I took one of my Shih Tzu in recently and they expressed anal glands, trimmed nails, bathed, trimmed up hair around his eyes and it cost me around $15.00. I dont know what they charge everyone else. I used to take 2 dogs in weekly and negotiated a price for bringing them in that often. Those 2 have since gone to the Rainbow Bridge but I think they are still giving me a special deal on my current pups. I did take my oldest yorkie in once for a "trim" and got way more "trimmed" than I bargained for. She has a really slow growing coat so took forever for it to get any length back to it. But except for this one incident I have been satisfied with the service and the price charged. :aimeeyork :animal-pa |

I voted 50 as my dog has a puppy cut, I'm tempted to start growing it though... For now on, I wouldn't pay more BUT if he was a show dog with long beautiful coat that somehow got matted badly (I'm sure owners of dog with long flowy coat take care of it all the time) I'd pay as much as necessary. But then, why do you let your dog go like that if you want a long coat? They're very time consumingm huh? And sitting through the whole day of dematting must be a terrible experience for the pooch. In NY area we pay a lot, I agree. First cut, my pup was matted and they brushed him out a little on the back. The rest got shaved down or trimmed a lot. It cost me 60, yesterday he went for a bath and sanitary, plus general clean up... this time 45. Around 50-60 per hour would be reasonable, JMO. |
As a groomer I can tell you that I charge 40 dollars a hour for dematting a dog. But I will only do it once for some one as I believe that if an owner can not handle the coat, she does not deserve one. And the dog sure doesn't deserve to be dematted over and over. No matter how gentle you are it is not the best thing for the dog. So I give them one time and that is it. Depending on the quality of coat you want when you are done will determine the time you invest in dematting. If it is just a pet, loosing a bit of coat in the process is not a bad thing, but a show dog you want to keep every hair you can. There comes a time to know when to say no to some one, when it might cause to much pain and or discomfort to the dog. But some owners think more about the way their dog looks than the discomfort it may go through to be dematted. They should have taken care of it in the first place...... This is just a groomers point of view, I do not like to cause discomfort or any extra stress to any dog no matter how much you want to pay..... If it was absolutely necessary, I'd pay a max of $50. But I would most likely shave it - it's not like it won't grow back. And if someone is THAT concerned about the coat getting that bad, they should have been paying attention to it. I would think that show dogs wouldn't get horribly matted as they're so pampered. |
