So - we decided on my older sister and her husband. The next trip they made up here to visit, we sat them down and talked to them about it and how our wishes were to have them raise them for us if something happened. We told them we didn't want an answer right away, to think about it, pray about it, and let us know later as it was a big decision to make. My BIL spoke up and said there's nothing to think about, of course we will take them!! So, we had papers written that specifies them as guardians of our boys. A few years back, during one of the holidays they were in town, we were talking about it again (they have copies of the legal papers too). And it "hit" me - what about Gabby??? So, I asked if they would be willing to take her in too and explained that it would be hard enough on the boys losing their parents, they couldn't lose their pet as well! And we got the answer we were hoping for - no hesitation, nothing other than if the boys come to live with us, so does Gabby. And last Thanksgiving, my BIL was playing with Gage and told him, "If anything happens to your mom and dad, you know you're coming to live with me!" - this 50 year old man, in the floor, telling my precious furbaby this!! It brought tears to my eyes!!
For those of you who have not made provisions, please, I urge you to do that! As much as we pamper and spoil them, we should all want to make sure they will be taken care of in the unlikely event something happens to one of us - all you have to do is look in the shelters and rescues for animals turned in because their owner has died...that should be enough to convince you. |
