Summer cuts - who has them? As the summer progresses, I see more and more YT yorkies with summer cuts. It's something we've never even considered, and now I wonder if it is the norm. Do you usually give your baby a summer cut? |
Yes I do. I find him to be so hot with all that hair. I walk him several times during the day and he loves being outside. I really think he loves it when his hair is short. He seems to show off when it gets cut. I let it grow during the winter with just a trim here and there. |

kirby had a great summer cut. they shaved all underneath him and kept a short skirt on him. it looks great. i love him being scooped underneath. |
Yes I give my babies a summer cut -- it's short then their regular puppy cut. I keep their hair short in a puppy cut all year long. In the summer, I give them a summer cut so that the heat and humidity doesn't make them sick -- plus it's clean and easy for the beach! |
Oh, yes! Muffin couldn't take the heat without getting a hair cut and she, as does Kacee, loved being outside. I'd rather see them happy than hot.:) |
hate mine My Sadee got one and it was by accident and I absolutley hate it. They cut all of her hair off because they said that she had a few mats and they didnt have any time to work on them.. When I picked her up last friday i cried like a big baby. |
It is very hot and humid here, and I just don't want Louie to suffer in the summer. I am afraid he would have a heat stroke or something. |
Ive never even considered it, but I'm beginning to wonder if it's the right thing to do, since so many YT owners are doing it? It just seems such a shame that you take all year to grow the coat, and then it's all cut off! |

I didn't vote, b/c I don't know yet. Trixie is at the groomer as we speak getting a summer cut. I'm leaving her face longer, but trimming the hair on her body. Keep your fingers crossed it's going to turn out cute :xfingers: |
Ginger got hers last week and I love it so much I plan on keeping it that way. She got a Schnauzer cut on the body with long feathers, and her face was kept Yorkie (gotta keep the topknot! lol). I love it and I imagine she’s cooler too. The best part is they shave around her little nub in the back and it just looks so cute. :p |
Georgie has a summer cut now and I will let it grow throughout the fall and winter. However he never has it long like a traditional Yorkie cut. |
I have a little 4 yr daughter who keeps sticky fingers so we keep Iko's hair cut short. I cut him in a snauzer cut. I know this is a yorkie no no. However I live in Missississippi and it is 100 degrees and it fits my family. We love short hair, however when my daughter can keep her hands off then we will consider a long trational look. Iko might not get there, he is to busy to be brushed 2x a day. |

I never did Parker and will probably never do Maddie. I love the longer coats. I know they are a lot of work but its worth it to me.:) |
Rebel is the only one that I keep cut down. Males are just easier to keep that way...at least for me! |
I voted yes but will never do it again. I had to give Gus a summer cut last year but only because of his accident. After been attacked by a German Shepherd, they had to shave him down so I did have to shave him from the neck down. And I did trim chest and face. He looked like a tiny lion. I just prefer the long hair. And I do think the summer/puppy cuts are cute but I much rather have Gus's hair long. |
Mojo's first "summer" cut was a mistake - a big mistake. I told the groomer to only take an inch off and she took him DOWN to an inch! :eek: WOW! Was I shocked and a little upset! BUT......I say every summer, he has beautiful hair and I am going to keep it long and grow it out more - then my DH keeps at me, so I end up cutting it short :( AND Mojo just loves it! You can tell he feels so much cooler and just over all better. We live where it can get very hot, not just from the temp, but from the horrible humidty.....So, we normally give him a summer cut (but it still takes me awhile to do it)! ;) |
2 Attachment(s) This is Starsky first Summer cut. He looks so much happier being cut short with this hot weather. I am just wondering how long it will take for his hair to grow back long. Or semi long. It is so much easier to bath and groom him. He has curly or wavy hair so it looks good on him. |

I did it and I'm so happy! I love it and I think I'm going to keep it fairly short all year long. It's so much easier for me and I think he likes not having to be groomed so much. :) |
Right now it's in a summer cut, I plan on keeping it that way until it gets cold, but i'm growing it out - summer's going bye bye in about a month - I hope! :eek: This is my first time grooming a yorkie or any dog every single day! If anyone has any tips or reccomend anything please let me know! I need all the help possible. :p |
Ella is only 10 months old. She will be getting her second cut of the summer this Tuesday. I like it better when she has a short cut, but i do think i'll let it grow out for the winter. She won't be going out much then. :) |
Rockie is a handsome cottony yorkie, so we had decided to continue to keep the short cut. He does so much better with it. lt's easier for me to keep him clean with the short hair. |
