I voted 2-4, only because Jersey is tiny and the only Yorkie I know. I'm sure I'd love all sizes though. |
I was gonna say 8-10 pounds because Eddie's 8.8 and he's perfect for me. Then I thought of Jack, 4 pounds. Love him, too. Of course, 5-7 is considered perfect, so toss that in. That left big ones and small ones I wasn't sure about. If anyone saw the teapot thread, you'd have to say big ones are cool too. There's just more to love. That left tinies. They're almost too delicate for me, and I'd be afraid for their health, but do I not like them? I love 'em all. |
This was a hard poll to answer. Before I had Ginger, I would have quickly answered 5-7 or 6-8 (I forget what the choices were). But I gotta say, I think my girl's pretty cool, all 12.4 lbs of her! And she still looks cute in dresses! I've been keeping my eye out for a brother for her, mostly through the rescues, and most of them tend to be a little larger too, although I'd probably go as small as 5 lbs. A "teacups" just not for me, too fragile and small, I don't think I'd EVER relax, but the several I've seen have been adorable heartbreakers! (I'll never forget BUTCH the adorable 3 lb Yorkie I met at the dog park when Ginger was a puppy....I think she was 3 lb when I brought her home) Just a note, Ginger was the biggest Yorkie I had ever seen until we had our playdate the other week. I expected to get there and have her look like a giant, but only ONE was smaller than her...and they were all BEAUTIFUL and great little dogs! |
I also intentionally wanted average sizes and that's just what I have....I'm kind of glad mine aren't too small because I would worry all the time. Yorkies are small to begin with..but anything under 5 lbs would turn me into a complete Mother Hen..worse than I already am :D |
I always thought I wanted a small yorkie around 5 lbs., but the one I bought turned out to be 13 pounds (both parents small). He is so lovable!!! Then about a month ago, I rescued a small boy (3.3 lbs., very underweight). He has gained 5 oz. and he is very lovable also. The larger one is "softer" and a lot more cuddly. I wouldn't trade either one, all sizes are great. |
I definitely love all sizes, but my preference would have to be anything over 8 lbs. Having had tinies in the past, I'm just too nervous about their safety. I find with my two larger males, I can enjoy them more and allow them to 'roughhouse' a lot more. We are all much happier. :animal36 |
I have a little 3lb girl-5 months-whom i love dearly. However I hope she grows a bit more. I would have liked her to be in the 9lb range, as Mum is a Silky, but it's not going to happen.I do worry about her eating . She is healthy and happy, so that's what matters. |
We have 3 in our home...One is large, one is medium, and one is small. Kind of like the 3 bears! Any size will do as long as it's a yorkie... |
size, does it matter? 5 to 7 lbs was ideal for me until I got Starsky and he kept growing and growing. He is up to 9 1/2 lbs and there is just more to love!!! I wouldn't change him for the world! :hearts-xx |
I love love love my teapot yorkie. He's approaching the 12lb range. I would of been happy had he stopped growing at 8lbs, but he didn't. No big deal more to cuddle. He's like a little baby. However, if he continues to grow I'm gonna have to buy another celtie bag which will probably cause my husband to kill me, so that wouldn't be good. Also for my lifestyle a bigger one is best. Me and my husband work so I wouldn't be able to keep an eye on a tiny all the time. With him being big and a really good eater, hypo was never a problem. Also I'm kinda a clutz and sometimes he ends up on the wrong end of my clutziness. Also my parents and grandparents both live on farm and he's able to hold his own against the bigger dogs, cats, and other animals so not has much to worry about. |
I like the 4 to 6 lb range. |
I like mine in the 5-7 lb range. |

I dont care to have a big dog in my house. One thing, I am very scared of animals, even dogs if they get as high as my knee and i'm 5'3. But my brother raises really big dogs. hmmm, glad he dont live too close even if i do love him. can't handle those big dog near me. |
