Exercise: Summer vs. winter Do your small dogs get more outdoor exercise in the summer than in the winter? |
I am guilty of not exercizing my girls more often... Maybe that's why I tell people Jazzie is "my full figured gal" - Bad Mommie! But she got good excercize today at the dog park  I need to take her more often. |
Bugaboo is kinda the indoor type. He does like to sun bathe, but I don't consider that exercise. In the house is where he gets the most exercise. :animal37 |
I still walk my dogs daily in the winter but not for as long, probably only about 20 mins where as in the summer we are out for hours :D |
Exercise, what's that? I don't think I get anymore exercise in either. In the winter it's too cold, and in the summer it's too hot. OH!!! You were talking about our babies, not us. :animal36 |
Trixie gets way more outdoor walking time in the summer! We're walking around the block now, except when it's nice on the weekends. In the summer we go for a long long walk every night! (when it's nice out and light) And honestly, I can see the difference in behavior... some times she just gets bored indoors! |
I would say more in the summer becuase I bring him more places because I spend more time outside when it it warm... |
We're about the same since we don't really have an official winter here in South Florida... :) |
I voted "more exercise in summer" but I will be interested to see if that is true now that we've moved to a warmer climate than TN (I mean, in the summer it's not warmer it's "miserably hotter") Anyway, Sully has really been outside this winter, and with the addition of the treadmill, he's really gotten a lot of exercise/walks in.....about twice a day since I started working full-time again! So we shall see ;) |
Summer....we do alot of camping...she goes everywhere with us. Does ridding on the back of my bike count as exercise? |
I voted summer. Actually, it is anytime the weather is decent. My hubby make a walking trail around our land, so we walk it (it is 1 1/2 miles) morning and evening. Plus, we are avid outdoors people, so we are always hiking, camping, canoeing, etc. Winter time, sometimes here, it can be so cold or icy, so we don't get out much during the winter....we do play fetch, etc. in the house though. |
This has been interesting. Thanks for replying. I'm amazed that almost no one gets equal exercise in summer and winter. |
I wish I could say that he gets walked regularly regardless of the weather (you'd be amazed at how many people do that here in England). But no, I'm a wimp. I can't make myself walk him when it's freezing cold and damp outside. PLUS (I feel a good excuse coming on....), I haven't figured out how the harness thing is supposed to work under his coat. Oh, duh. Maybe I should get a bigger harness that will fit OVER his coat? What do you guys do??? |
I got my wee girl in summer and have enjoyed getting out and about and leaving the doors to outside open a lot.Now the clocks have changed,it's dark early and it has rained for the last 4 days.Had to take her out in the rain today after work as she is so hyper-despite games of fetch! She has woken ih the night for the last three nights and wanted to play, play, play! So we walked in the rain.First stop tomorrow, the petshop to get her a coat! What do you all do in Winter with your active Yorkies? |

I walk them every day, snow or not. But I can see where rain could be even more of a nuissance. I would think a raincoat will help a lot. And are there any covered areas where you can play with her? |
