How much would you spend for your dog's winter coat? If you have a cold cold winter of say -30C to -40C, how much would you spend on a good winter coat for your dog? |
Ha Ha! If we lived in a climate that cold, I probably wouldn't bother to even buy a winter coat for my yorkie. I can't see him going outside in those temps much at all. I'd make sure he was pee pad trained, and if I took him anywhere he'd be wrapped in a couple of warm sweaters and his blankie, and carried back and forth to the heated car in his crate. But then my yorkie is a wuss and does not like the cold. :) Diana |

Given, he's 12 years old and with the winter this year it's a bit much for him to handle. I go out with him everytime as well to make sure he's okay. I'm eyeing a jacket for him but it's around Cad$150. It is a little hard to justify hence I posted a poll here to see what others think. |
Potter, while I don't live in a climate that cold, we do visit our mountain cabin sometimes with our yorkie and occasionally get some snow. The key for our little guy seems to be keeping his feet warm. I tried boots but he wouldn't walk in them, so I bought him some heavy sock-type things with a non-slip coating on the bottom and Velcro straps around the ankles to keep them from sliding off. They were cheap, so he has several pairs and I think I bought them on Amazon. With the socks and a warm winter sweater he will run outside to a shoveled area, do his business and dash back in. You might try something like the bootie socks to keep his feet warm and see if that helps. Good luck. Diana |
I make almost all of Katy's coats.....but found some GREAT deals on Clearance at Menards for Coats and Sweaters, and she has received other coats and clothes for gifts. Just a heads up for Winter Layering.....I put a sleeved sweater on Katy when we have snow, to keep the snow from balling up in her armpits, or when she rides inside the Bicycle Basket for extra warmth. Dollar General sells Holiday Dog T-Shirts, after the Holidays the prices FALL. I bought some in Small (for next year) for...not only to wear for the Holidays I bought them for, Halloween, Valentine's Day, and others....but to be a layer under coats. Or for days she will need something, but not really a coat. And if she would need something inside the house, or pjs. I GOT MOST OF THE DOLLAR GENERAL DOG COATS FOR LESS THAN .50! Also after the Holidays, Walmart also sells their different Holiday Dog Coats CHEAP! I bought Katy one for next Halloween that is well made and really cute for $2. |
Couldn't vote 'cause "my" answer wasn't an option. First of all, there is no way (unless forced against my will) that I would live in a climate with less than no degrees (negative numbers). But if I was forced to do so, since I sew, I would make my own. |
