Successfully Housebroken by 6 Months or Within 2 Months (Older Dog)? Okay, I didn't see any conclusive results from my "Not Housebroken Yet" poll. So, with your help, I'd like to look at this a different way. Please let us know what method you used IF your puppy was successfully housebroken (defined as one or less accident per week) by 6 months. Or, if you adopted an older Yorkie, if he successfully housebroken within 2 months of his adoption. Thank you!!! |
I lucked out with Sophie because she was really easy to housebreak. I voted outside and pee pads because we keep a pee pad on the porch so she goes to the door to go on the porch. If we leave her at home alone I can put a pee pad by the door and she will use it. She has only peed on the ground like twice and that was just because she couldn't hold it. We praised her and made a big fuss but she still doesn't want to go on the ground. She will be playing in the yard and come back on the porch to potty. Lol. As long as she doesn't go in the house I'm happy. |
I never thought Callie would get housbroke, but she did finally. She went outside more than anything else, but if we were not home she ALWAYS had a pee pad with her....now if I put one down when I leave she sleeps on it and waits until someone gets home to put her out. It will happen I promise, I didn't think it would but it did for us. |
Ok, I'm not going to vote becasue I don't know what to say!! Imagine me speechless!! But My lilly is 6 months(a bit more) and she is housebroken except she poops every morning on my area rug in my family room. ( stupid me, use to have the wee wee pad there when she was little) and now she goes there every morning!! Other than that she is completey broken!! I keep her in a cage (large one with Petey) when we go out and at night. (because Lilly is chewing on everything! Not sure if others would call her house broken, but I kinda do!! :p |
Sophie'smom, that's so funny how she runs back to the porch to go potty! That's cute :) Miko was potty trained pretty quick...When we first got him, we put down a couple of puppy pads that he didn't always go to, so we paid attention to the spots where he would pee, and we put the pads there instead. Everytime he had to pee, he went to these spots where there were pads now, so we made a big deal out of it and threw a party everytime he made it :) He learned so quick and he never has accidents :) |
brownie was about 9 -10 weeks and completely trained |

Hmmmmm...Sophie'sMom, I have thought about that method...Kip was easy to train to go outside because we have an older dog that she watched...but I am wondering about that pee pad on the porch. Sounds like a good idea for a dog that has to be left alone awhile. I might try that next time! |

i had my silky too my chi was alittle behind cause i tryed the pads first BIG waste of money he didnt get the pads and i had to retrain him to go outside now hes 8 months and trained he beats up the door when he has to go |
Trixie was papertrained when I got her at 14 weeks. But I took her outside right away. It took a lot of attention and dedication, but she's had less than one accident a week since the second day we had her! |
With the nice weather we have in Arizona going outside is not a big deal unless it is raining  . They absolutely hate the rain so I let them use the garage and clean it up. |
