Rabies Vaccince I have always been concerned about giving the Rabies Vacc to my Yorkies. I have heard terrible stories about deaths and illnesses as a result. I was wondering how many have had a bad experience with the vaccine vs. those that have not. Let's not get into why to vaccinate or not. OK?..thanks :) |
Ok I have never heard of this and now you have me scared bc my little girl Daisy is scheduled to get her rabies shots tomorrow please let me know about the risks. |

I chose MINOR because a big bump formed where my dog's got their rabies shot -- my vet told me that this is very common. The bump was only there for a few hours and then it went down. Other then that, I had no problems at all. |
We haven't had any problems but both of my girls have only had their first ones. Magic has her's coming up really soon. I have heard of some side effects but I think the benefits out way them. |
when i got brownie i had no thought on not getting them done same with kayko i know someone that got there chihuahuas shot and his face comeplete swelled up i havent gotten austins yet ive been holding off i checked and there no reported cases where i live so im in no rush he will get it im just trying to get my guts up but with brownie no problems at all he now has his 3 year so no shots for a while |
Out of all of the dogs that my parents bred/raised, my husband and I bred/raised and now with our yorkies, we've never had 1 that had any type of reaction other than being a little tired...but hey, when I have to get a shot, I feel a little tired, too afterwards. |
I voted minor because I've had a couple to loose hair at the injection site.. about the size of a quarter.. it never grows back.. Its a law in Ga. so they have to be done.. its not an option. |
I voted horrible. Just short of death. Had to go to ER vet. Never again. It's the law here, too. |
I have had a lot of dogs, including my 3 yorkies that I have now. Bell has been vaccinated twice for Rabies, and Lilly once, Petey is to small, so I'll wait awhile. Never had any reactions to the Rabies vaccine.. But Yesterday both Lilly and Petey freaked me out when they got their 7 in 1 vaccinations.. (very sore, and sluggish) Back to 100% today though!! Here in Florida you MUST get the rabies vaccination, its the law!! |
The unfortunate thing about the rabies vaccine and vaccines in general is that there are side effects and potential maladies as a result of repeated and over vaccination over years which do not manifest until later on in life or are hard to PROVE were in fact CAUSED by the vaccine. Many vets believe that allergies, cancers, and other conditions which dogs acquire after receiving vaccines are as a result of those vaccines. I say this not to debate the issue but simply to point out that whether a dog had a mild, horrible or no reaction at all to the actual vccine does not always mean that their body was not adversely affected in some way that will maifest itself later. My vet would judge ANY reaction, even just being a little tired to be a bad reaction and something that would him convince for sure that the dog's body had an adverse reaction to the vaccine. Same thing with the lumps...it is the bodie's way of trying to get rid of the poison. |
All 3 of my yorkies and my grand-yorkie have had rabies vaccinations. Carter, in fact, has had two rabies vaccinations. None of them have had any adverse reactions to the injection. My vet did warn me that a "knot" may develop at the injection site and not to be alarmed if it did. I live in south Louisiana where we have raccoons, possum, amadillo, nutria, rats, mice, etc living amongst humans and pets. I feel its better to be safe than sorry but also, I choose to be a law-abiding citizen for the welfare of my neighbors. Lisa |

If I am not mistaken, the New Orleans Zyphers, the minor league baseball team, uses Clothile and Boudreaux as their mascots . . . . NUTRIA!!!!!! |
