What are your Yorkies' favorite chew toys? There are a lot of chew toy options out there. Different dogs like different chew toys. However, I'm curious to see if there is a general consensus when it comes to Yorkies. It'd also be nice to know what chew toys are most liked so I can better predict what my Mishka would like before purchasing. |
Mine love bully sticks, but they go through them pretty fast and I have to watch to make sure they don't swallow them. I recently ran across a new treat called a Himalayan Dog Chew, Himalayan Dog Chew It's made of VERY hard cheese that doesn't break off. A little pricier than bully sticks, but they last forever. Mine prefer bully sticks, but the Himalayans keep them occupied longer. |
Thanks for the tip about the Bully Sticks! I have seen those in stores and I thought they looked like a good chew toy, I just never tried them. So I was curious what a Bully Stick is exactly and looked it up--they're made from the penis of the bull. Yuck! But hey, it's my experience that when it comes to dog treats and chew toys...the "nastier" the better! I have also been interested in the Himalayan Dog Chew. I have seen that in my stores as well. Since all it said about its make-up was "an ancient recipe of the people of the Himalayas," I was cautious to try it. Thank you for making it clear that it's just hardened cheese. I will probably try that one too! Mishka is still so young, and I want to give her lots of different chew toy options and textures. I think it's good for her mental and physical development, and I get to learn what products she likes. I am careful about what I give her though. I stick to natural pet products as much as possible, and definitely products only made in the U.S., Canada or Europe. I'll never give her Greenies either! |
Bully sticks are loved! But Mikki will make just about anything into a chew toy! |

CoCo loves Bully Sticks!:aimeeyork |
All of mine LOVE bully sticks. It is actually difficult to keep them in stock at the house. |
I didn't participate in the poll since I'm waiting for my future yorkie; but wanted to share that my 5lb furkids love anything I make in the dehydrator. I've found that different foods end up giving very different textures. I like long-lasting chews that keep them busy; some cuts of beef make great tough chews when dehydrated. Nowadays you can pick them up for around $20 bucks; and they are a breeze to clean too. FWIW none of my dogs have ever shown interest in antlers though! I wish they had, since I was able to get them from a local butcher rather than paying the crazy $10 an antler from pet stores. But for anyone who's dogs do love them, definitely contact local butchers around deer hunting season; because they often discard the smaller antlers that aren't "trophy worthy" so if you let them know in advance they'll save some! ETA: Oh and yeah, bully sticks for sure! =D |
Himalayan Chews are there favorite. |

The bottom line, though, no matter what you choose, is to keep an eye on them. They can swallow anything that gets too small. Mine have choked multiple times on rawhide, so I stopped giving them those long ago. |
morgan absolutely loves anything with a squeaker |
Hailey LOVES Bully Sticks! |
Bully sticks here. Raw hide can cause blockages. |
Mine like squeaky toys. They also get the Himalayan Chews. Uni loves bullys but every brand I've tried stinks to high heaven. Even the ones everyone else says don't smell. They smell! I like when they give me kisses, and if they've had one, OMG gross no thanks! We were doing Texas Toothpicks, Flossies and Wishbones from Merrick but they changed the formula so they weren't lasting long at all, and they're pricey, plus I don't trust that company anymore and the others out there many source from China so none of that anymore. |
I will definitely get Mishka some bully sticks the next time I'm in the store; they seem to be everyone's favorite! I think I will quit giving her the rawhide. She isn't that crazy about them anyway. I have noticed with my parents dogs that they cough on little pieces sometimes and it gets stuck in their teeth. I have also heard before about it causing blockages. I can't believe I'm going to give my baby girl a dried penis to gnaw on, lol. |
