Britster | 04-14-2012 02:06 PM | Vaccination Schedule Poll We had one of these before... and I was shocked at the number of people still getting their dogs yearly vaccines. So let's see if it's changed at all!!
I think more and more people, including vets, are becoming much more aware of the dangers of over-vaccination and how serious of an issue it is. And I think it was a matter of people believing they were being responsible owners by getting their dogs yearly vaccs.
I still believe yearly vet checks are very important, and lack of vaccines are not a reason to skip health checks and exams.
If you are getting yearly, what are your reasons?
I am very much a believer in minimal vaccines (but not a believer in no vaccines at all)... I am planning on following Dr. Dodd's protocol. Dr-Dodds-ChangingVaccProtocol Quote:
In 2003, and again in 2006, The AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) released its new recommendations for the Canine Vaccine Schedule. Unfortunately, all vets still do not follow these recommendations - so it is up to the pet's owner to be sure an appropriate and safe vaccine schedule is being followed. CORE Vaccines for a canine (should be given to all dogs, unless a medical condition warrants otherwise):
*Distemper
*Hepatitis
*Parvovirus
*Rabies NON-CORE Vaccines for a canine (should be given only when a dog has risk factors for the disease which exceed the risk of the vaccine):
*Corona
*Leptospirosis
*Lyme
*Bordatella
*Giardia
*Parainfluenza
