Neutered Male Behavior, II I'm trying to study the relationship between neutering and marking in male dogs. I'd appreciate your help! FirstYorkie |
If you get them neutered before they start marking, they will probably never start. But Tucker has been marking since we got him so it's probably too late for us. |
Megan, how old was Tucker when you got him? Was he neutered? Do you know at what age he was neutered? THANKS |
Tucker was about 14 weeks or so when we got him. He's almost 8 months now, and was neutered this last week. But I have noticed he hasn't been marking as much since he was "done." |
Tucker has been a "marker" since the first time he could lift his leg. It's awful. I thought getting him neutered would cure it, but so far it hasn't. he still pees on anything and eveything he sees. he will be in diapers for the rest of his life. |
Gus didn't mark until I started taking him for walks...which was after he was neutered at eight months. He only marks on the walks never in the house. |
I think just by the fact that males pee against things anyway that they are marking thier territory so I marked he only marks outside. |
Any other input? |
Miko never marks inside of the house...ever...but outside he'll pee in several places and lifts his leg sometimes, so I guess he's marking his territory when we take him on walks. |
Again in the interest of science.... I have 3 males and all 3 were neutered at 6mos. None of them have ever marked.... |
I am probably no help because Stewie had urinary tract surgery and I believe that his rare problem had something to do w/ him not being "100%" potty trained, but he was all fixed up and as good as new @ his one-year bday and his pottying-in-the-right-place has all fallen into place since then. He's 14 mos now |
Bailey marks EVERYthing OUTSIDE. Which is fine with me. He marked inside once, , before he was fixed,, in someone's house that had another dog. Hasn't since being neutered. :D (except outside) |
Carol...Teddy was neutered at 6 months old. He never marked or has lifted his leg to this day and he is now 11 months old. Also, you may find this interesting...I have a big male Lab that is 5 years old. He was not neutered when he came to our home and he lifted his leg and marked every chance he got. However, since we had him neutered a year or so ago he has completely stopped lifting his leg and marking entirely. |
Buddy was neutered at 7 months and never lifted his leg until we brought Jake home. The odd thing is that they both stopped marking completely in the past wek since I brought San-Dee (the stray) home. |
