Would you pay double for this? Ok so I recently learned of a new spay technique they are offering which uses laproscopy which uses a camera and tiny instruments. For this poll lets say a spay cost $300 and a laproscopic spay costs $600, double the cost. Heres some facts: Traditional Spay: •2” – 4” Incision •Pain & Bruising from Blindly Tearing Ovarian Ligament •Post-Operative Pain •Open Surgical Procedure Laproscopic Spay: •Two Tiny Holes •Reduced Pain due to precise surgical cuts •Up to 65% Less Post-Operative Pain •Minimally Invasive Technique which reduces chance of infection |
If my vet felt there was a better, safer alternative to any surgery, with a shorter healing time and less impact on my dog- I would certainly pay more for it. |
Yes, I would pay the extra to have a lap spay. |
I myself have had traditional and laproscopic surgery. A 5-6 week recovery for me with traditional and 2 weeks tops on the laproscopic. No decision to make, I would do the laproscopic on my babies for sure. |

Yes, I would even if it meant eating ramen noodles for a month and start saving early LOL I had no idea this was being offered and will 'shop' around in my area and see if anyone offers it. What a great idea. |

I answered maybe because I would want to know the risks. If they were equal to or less than the risks of the traditional surgery, I would absolutely pay double to spare Tallulah some pain. |
Yeah I would if I had the funds for it and it was safe and the vet was very experienced with that particular procedure. I've searched a few vets that do it and their websites say they do it on dogs that are 25lbs and over, so does that mean it isn't safe enough for the dogs under 25lbs? There has to be a reason for it? |

I hadnt come across anything saying their was a weight limit, I called and asked the vet how much it was, I mentioned I had a yorkie and she didint say anything about it. I will double check tomorrow. |

I am fortunate to live in Pittsburgh. We have a new facility that does speciality and emergency care. I see on their website that they do offer the minimal invasive procedure. I will pay twice the money to have my babies be spaired the additional pain and down time. Espcially my tiny girl, Hallie. She is just 3.7 pounds at 4 months. I don't expect her to get much bigger. I'm going to call and get more information. Why risk infection and more problems? |
I am not sure what I would do because I can't honestly say I have experienced any complications with the traditional spay. Matilda came through with flying colors and didn't need pain medication; acted great, etc. I also take mine to the Animal Welfare to be spayed and not my regular Vet, as it is much less expensive. I feel that these Vets at the Animal Welfare do thousands of spays a year, so I feel they are more than qualified and I have been totally pleased. On the other hand, when I had my cryptorchid male neutered I spent well over $700 because I knew it was a more difficult procedure and wanted my regular vet to do it as he seemed more qualified in this circumstance. |
