I use interceptor- my vet said this was the safest for small breeds, we had always used heartguard growing up. So far I have been using it non stop for four years and have never had an issue, plus they get tested every year- so I plan to stick with it. I had considered switching to a pill that covered both heartworms and fleas for the warmer months but I am too scared to have a possible reaction. |

I know. I went through the same debate with Ellie and Sentinel. Decided what the heck, if she reacts we will deal with it. She did fine with it. Back to Interceptor for a couple months because I had some left and she can't play outside because of her back now anyway. But I just got tired of getting stressed over her playing in the grass because I don't want her bringing fleas inside. Figured just let her play and be a dog and risk the chemical. |
Toto's vet has always prescribed Interceptor and Comfortis for her. She has never had a problem nor a reaction. I like that they are both pills so we know exactly how much she is getting. :thumbup::thumbup: |

You'd be replacing the methoprene in the Frontline (the Plus part). So you still may need the fipronil. Nope, Ellie rarely gets fleas. We are in the same living situation.. I just am always rushing her when she is sniffing in the grass because I didn't want her to end up picking up bugs. Now I feel like at least if one gets on her, it is very unlikely to lay eggs. When she can be outside again, we will probably use Sentinel and then possibly Dawn if I see a flea. I'm more comfortable with trying the lufenuron than keeping her on fipronil for whatever reason. Possibly one of the reasons is that with Sentinel, I can keep track of the reaction cases reported to the FDA whereas Frontline is the EPA, I think, and I don't know if they have a site listing reactions. Also, Frontline is starting to be less effective anyway in some ares... that's not to say I think it's a bad product. I'm just more comfortable with Sentinel. |
I dont use frontline plus- my vet stopped carrying it because they were seeing too many reactions- I use frontline topspot- don't know if that makes a difference- but I think I might just give the sentinel a chance and see what happens. I can always go back if it doesn't work. And thank you very much for all the input! |
i use Frontline Plus on Zhoie and she does fine with it. I appy the day before her bath. I can tolerate it for that day, not to bad one it has dried. But come the next morning, she's getting a bath;). I had TruGreen spary my fenced in backyard for fleas & ticks a couple weeks ago, no problem with that. They said to keep her off the grass for at least any hour, but I didn't let her back out there until the following day. I just took her to my front yard on her lease. She's an easy girl:) |
