Which size yorkie play pen would you buy? I am debating on whether to purchase a medium or large excersize pen for my two yorkies. Should I choose the 41" diameter pen or the 52" diameter pen? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT Please vote so I can make a good decision and add comments too! |
I have both LOL...I have the small 44x24 and large 57x36 I use the small one for upstairs in my room for bedtime and I use the large one downstairs to keep him in if I have to go out or just can't watch him...I order both mine off Ebay as well. I was gonna vote but I don't see anywhere to vote? am I missing it? If your just getting the one I would Vote the large one. |
ok I got it :) Good luck! |
I'd like to get something like this for Max when I leave the house. Can it be knocked over if he tries or is it fairly stable? |

Like everyone else, I voted for the large. Unless there is some reason like you don't have enough space or something, why not go with the largest? |

I would go large!! |
I chose the medium, but it depends on the sizes of your babies. Mine is around a medium size, but my babies are 10 lbs total. since everyone else suggested large, I would just go with large. :D |
I think for two dogs I would go with the large size. That way there is enough room for both of them and their water, toys, etc. |

I might add I couldn't find the dimensions there, but I have one (an ugly one, not the cool animal print like on those) - sadly to say I paid 80$ at Ashlin Finch for one approximately 3' diameter. We keep in the xpen for the pups, which they tore the top zipper, but you probably won't use the top anyway. |
I would have gone with the larger one too, for two dogs. I was thinking that I read somewhere not to leave them alone in one, unsupervised. I bought a playpen (not sure if its what you are talking about) when we got Kayla. She finally broke the zipper from chewing on it and now it hangs in the garage. I paid alittle over a hundred dollars for nothing. lol!!!!! Kayla can distroy anything. Hope you like yours though and they get plenty of use out of it. |

I got my pen already today!! It's huge and seems to be made so well. I love it. Max already laid down in it and took a nap. I'm hoping he doesn't mind staying in there when we leave the house. We'll have to practice. |
The Poll is closed, but, if there had been one larger than 52", I would have selected it ! I'm glad to see those who seek areas of confinement, larger than just a Crate. Sorry, but, I just feel that Crating an animal for even short periods of time, is...well, umm... IMHO not appropriate. They were made to move, and the more area they have, the better. IF I had to select some sort of "barrier", I'd use the panels of a Pen in conjunction with a corner of a Room, that would increase the area for no more cost than the Pen it's self. Better yet (I do this) is use my Utility Room (10x10) for keeping them out of the way, when necessary. It has a Bed, Toys, Water, a Treat or two hidden in the Blanket. HA, I also have a Crate in there, but, I never shut the door on it, and I've only seen either of them in it just once. As my Dogs grew, their permitted area of access was increased. First in the U-Room, then that door opened to the Kitchen/Breakfast Room, with Gates prohibiting access to the rest of the house. My Male Sneakers has total access, 24/7, second floor included... trained and trustworthy. But... my Female Becca is not quite there yet. I restrict her movement to the Utility/Kitchen/Breakfast areas, where there's a Vinyl Floor (just in case she misses the paper) and when we can't open the Doggy Door. to outside. So, with a little imagination and addressing items in the room, one can be a little more permissive. |
I'm really disappointed to say that I think I have to return the large pen I got. I do love it, but it's just not enough to contain Max. He and Cooper have been playing in it to get used to it. Max does like it but he also likes to eat parts of it. While the entrance was rolled up, he ate part of the bottom of the zipper. I was able to seal the door shut, but I'm not sure this will work. He likes to dig and scratch at the floor and windows. I may have to get something else  |
I have busted Harley a few times doing the same thing when I have the door rolled up...I put that apple bitter on it and he hasn't touched it :D..I also give Harley a bully stick or I take a kong out of the freezer full of peanut butter or sweet potato (his favorite) and give it to him right before I leave to keep him busy while I'm gone...I also keep his food/water/toys in there all the time so he has to go in to eat and get water. What I did was make it a fun safe place for him and now that play yard is like his safe place...like a crate would be...if he get scared or something he runs right in his play yard, when he is sleepy he goes to his play yard...When its bed time I look at Harley and Bella and say..lets go to bed kids and both run upstairs, Bella sleeps with us so she goes right to the bed but Harley goes to the smaller play yard I leave upstairs and waits for me to put him in, he's 5 mos now and doing really well with the potty training so he has graduated to the bed with us this past few weeks but still goes to the play yard every night :p I kinda made his whole world revolve around that play yard...You have to get Max use to it..take baby steps...but make it a routine he will get use to it...and as far as the digging at the floor...its new Mom LOL what is this :D |

I think Max really likes it. He steals Cooper's toys and runs in there to hide him. He has gone in there to sleep. I'm just afraid to leave him alone inside. I'll try a test run and just go outside and peak in to see what he's doing. He'd be great with a bully stick but I don't leave them unattended with edibles. |

Bigger is better? |
i LOVE mine. bought the bigger one in zebra and the pups LOVE it. i keep it in the family room and go in there with them to snuggle so they get used to it. both will go in there to sleep and i bought this cute zebra blanket at target to lay on the bottom for more comfort. they seem to love it and aren't upset about "kennel up" time anymore. i saved our big metal one for all the foster puppies that will be coming into our lives before long! |
